How could I have forgotten this one? From the father of ambient music himself, Brian Eno, this piece An Ending (Ascent) is one of those about which people happily comment, "That's what I want played at my funeral!" without realizing how incredibly morbid what they've just said is.
At once subtly melancholy, suggestive of the isolation and desolation of the vast, endless, empty spaces between stars, while simultaneously conveying jubilance and exaltation, this is an absolute classic of the school of the suspended cadence.
Anyone who knows the full import of that German word aufgehoben will totally relate to this.

Another one of my fave artists! you and i have some very similar tastes in weird ambient stuff.
This is a top ambient Eno piece for me. Really beautiful. A friend who is a massage therapist uses Eno instead of those bland new-agey relaxation discs she gets inundated with. Way cooler to bliss out to.
One of my favorites off of this album. Beautiful.
