Let's talk about Battles "Atlas".
From the moment I heard this song, I think it's been playing on an infinite loop in the back of my mind. It's infectious and just fucking badass. God bless Nathan Hunter for introducing me to this band last year. B+T on EP C? Hello? Brilliance is knocking...
Coincidentally, I had decided to post a bulletin of their video for this song, as it's just something that needs to be shared. I sat down at the computer to do this and was simultaneously checking my voicemail. Lo and behold, who had called other than Mizzou, who is currently in Chicago at Pitchfork.
Yeah, she called me during Battles' performance of it and let it run for about 3 minutes on my phone.
I love you, Missouri. And you too, Nathan.
Watch them do it live. It's the most incredible thing I've seen lately, and of the best song of 2007. I mean, they're both playing guitar with one hand and keyboard with the other. How can you call yourself an aficionado of music if your jaw doesn't drop to the motherfucking floor?
I'll shut up now so you can enjoy.
At the Empty Bottle in Chicago, March '07.
HOO FUCKING RAH!

The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (March 6, 2007)
Fuckingly, jaw-droppingly, heartbreakingly brilliant and beautiful. Your own little slice of God.
Highlights so far (on first listen) include: "Black Mirror" "No Cars Go" -and- "My Body Is a Cage"
Listen to it now. And pick up a copy. I know I most certainly will, on vinyl hopefully.
And while I'm here, why did it take me so long to listen to these guys?
Sure, I had heard about them, but it wasn't until now that I understood why everyone's been coming in their panties at the sound of their name. What a dead-on channeling of Ozzy Osborne's Sabbath-era vocals too. Bonnaroo can't come fast enough.
Speaking of which, stay tuned for my Roo '07 mix of destiny. It's proving to be ass-tastic.

Ahhhh...my fellow music-loving brethren, It's been awhile since I've posted. Suffice it to say, back in November, my computer kinda went on the fritz and wouldn't let me access the internet from the primary account. I had to create a secondary account but still had to listen to itunes on the other user (since all my 38.55 GB of music is linked to that account). My last.fm kept logging what I was listening to somehow, but MOG wouldn't work. I've been through some significant life changes since then, namely, getting evicted from my apartment so I'm now residing in the middle of bum fucking nowhere with my platonic life-mate Alyson and her husband. There IS no cable television, nor cable modems out here and the backwater phone company they use required a $100 deposit in order to get DSL...a $100 deposit I gladly paid. Ever since, I was able to get this primary user working again, hence a return to MOGdom.
Also a return to my blessed music community, Indie Exchange, which has provided me with a significant amount of new music to dig on, my favorite being Page France.
Have you heard of Page France? Well, let's talk about Page France then! Their album Hello, Dear Wind is one of those albums that makes your heart grow a little bit bigger, each track getting better and better than the last. I've seen it mentioned around the internets that they're sometimes considered a Christian band but, dear jesus, don't let that stop you. I'd say they're a Christian band in the same way that Fleming & John would be, or Ben Harper, or really any artist that deals with spirituality and the human condition in their lyrics. There is no overt proselytizing here in the least, just lines like "Jesus will come through the ground so dirty/With worms in his hair and a hand so sturdy". Their sound would best be described as indie folk, I 'spose, though I hate coming up with labels like that. It reminds me a lot of Sufjan Stevens...great harmonies, varied instrumentation, light & dark all at once. In closing, I cannot WAIT to see this band live...it would just figure that they played at The End (sooooooo tiny!) back in November and I hadn't heard of them yet...that happens to me all the time. In any event, I firmly and with much confidence place this album into my top 10 albums of the past 10 years....already. It's that good, folks.
In other news, fellow MOGger and Bucket City resident Bawston Sean in conjunction with Grand Palace Records has put together one hell of a show tonight (and MOG party!) at The Basement in Nashville featuring Catfish Haven, The Turncoats, and SJ and the Props:One last thing before I go, what's up MOG-O-matic? Why won't you accurately index my "last songs played"? And why are my "top artists of the week" always off? What's going on with you, you silly bitch? Seriously...

welcome back, again! that flyer artwork is darling, i would go if i lived near. i wonder about mog-O-matic too sometimes. i notice that it sometimes is keeping up with what i am playing, but i don't see it on my mog until i logout or refresh the page much later. but sometimes it makes up crazy labels for the tracks, even credits them to other bands! i guess it has something to do with the track info, and its unique i.d. in the great database of music.... or its just a MOG mystery like the single sock (that gets lost in the washing machine) phenonmena.

I've never heard the Wolf Mother, but recently at a house party there was some band played full blown 'Adventrue Metal" with shirts off stage props like a sword etc,and stone washed jeans as tight as possible. They also cited Michael Moorecock(who wrote such books as 'Man Seed' as one of thier main influences.
The sexual overtures were mind boggling.
I don't know where I was going with that one, just thought I'd share.
