I think that since my mog hasn't updated in a week and every band currently displayed is seriously cutesy (though I can' t lie... that's pretty indicative of my music taste...), that this is a good time to talk about other stuff.

I'm always excited when a song on the jukebox turns bar banter into a heated dicussion of musical favorites. The Clash's "Death of Glory" became "Favorite UK punk rock songs of all time" which led into "Favorite US punk rock songs of all time"
I'm sure there are songs I am missing and possibly better songs from these bands.. but this is where I stand on the issue at this very moment and at that very moment of Pabst-influenced decision-making:
UK: Crass - Punk is Dead or Big A Little a The Rezillos - Destination Venus or 2000 AD Billy Bragg - To Have and to Have Not Sex Pistols - Bodies Elvis Costello - No Action Wire - Strange The Slits -Typical Girls
US: Ramones - Judy is a Punk Minor Threat - Salad Days Television - See No Evil X - Los Angeles Descendents - Bikeage Mission of Burma - Academy Fight Song Fugazi- Blueprint

can't stand the rezillos, as in the album that i love, not as in the literal term " i can't stand the rezillos", good times, good tunes, i always like listening to them followed by a good session of art brut

If I was obsessive enough, I'd probably dispute the definition of punk rock and sort of question if all of those bands were of the 'fundamental' genre of punk rock--i.e., Minor Threat/Fugazi is, what, DC hardcore? but rooted in punk rock? But I actually can't say for sure because I don't really know/dwell on history, I am just thinking out loud. not so much one of those who is quite so into the anal retentive nitpickings of fitting music into the 'correct' category, because if you enjoy a song, who really cares, right?
Anyhow, excuse my mumblings. I love those song picks, all good songs,

Everyone knows "The Sound of Free Speech" is Crass's best song.

Like I said... there are probably better songs, but like... my lists my favorites. haha
Audrey, if those artists aren't, then I know nothing about music... come on, how much more punk rock can you get than Minor Threat!? Seriously, let's talk about how punk rock Mission of Burma is.
she don't care for one night stands or naughty boys with sweaty hands she got a thing about carving wood or shaping a figure from a lump of mud don't love my baby for her pouting lips don't love my baby for her curvy hips I love my baby 'cause she does good sculptures... yeah!!

I have my TIVO record SNL reruns and the other day one of the reruns was an episode with Ron Howard and The Clash. The Clash did "Straight to Hell" and a harder "Should I Stay or Should I go?" At one point Joe Strummer takes out this boombox and plays some cool distortion effects. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.Still ahead of there time,

I would have loved to have seen that. I just had a conversation about how certain people consider the Clash "pop music"
COME ON

The list of bands itself ensures that this argument is among people with more in common than anyone not in the argument, but not only would I take virtually every song on the first Clash album over everything on your list (shit, you show their picture) but I would take White Man in Hammersmith Palais over any song ever recorded by anyone, regardless of category.
I also have an ex-friend who insisted the two best songs ever were Mission of Burma's That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate and Pere Ubu's Final Solution. I forget the order he had them in but yeah, they're both legit candidates. And the Brit thing, there's no Buzzcocks or Adverts or Siouxsie and the Banshees...

Oh. Everything the Clash has ever done is automatically more punk than everything else... so I didn't even bother trying to include them in my list... I apparently forgot to mention that.
