No joke (well maybe a little, he was 10 years younger than Elmore)..Earl is the man! It isn't just me.. No less than BB King, Buddy Guy, JohnLee hooker (a relation, so it may be skewed), and Otis Rush have called Earl ,one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time. He played on Muddy's You Shook Me and You need Love in '62 (The only slide guitar to appear on a Muddy record, that was not played by Muddy), so it was his licks who inspired Led Zeppelin and the rest of the British scene, that in turn spurred the continued growth and interest in the blues. Plus he was a whole lot more than "electrified" delta, incorporating jazz and R&B (he played with Ike Turner) into his playing plus bringing in slide wah-wah playing. In the end Elmore is considered the King of Slide,as Robert Johnson is considered the King of the Delta bluesmen, but arguments can be made for other folks..including Charley Patton in the case of Mr.Johnson. So perhaps Earl is merely a Prince, but royalty nonetheless.
I want to post songs, but MOG is f-ing with me..
Two Bugs and a Roach has been one of my favorite albums for
some time now. My Grandfather was treated for TB at the same
sanitarium as Earl if I remember correctly.
I have to say you make a very persuasive argument. I think I
agree with Cub Koda though when he said "others may have had more
technique, but Elmore had the sound and all the feeling."
Thanks for that tremendous post, you know more than me about
the blues I fear, I love it, thanks for sharing.

Great stuff. My first exposure to this song was on the first Yardbirds LP, which Jeff Beck (?) did an admirable job on.
I finally heard the original last year when I bought an Elmore collection. Thanks.

Oh yea, I picked the song for it's title. I thought it was appropriate considering my track record. Now to listen and learn. Thanks again Cody

Naaah, I don't know that much. I just wanted to argue for fun. Elmore is the MAN and of course his stuff is essential.
