"Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" is a simple and poignant antiwar song written by Pete Seeger in the 1960s. The lyrics were inspired by three lines from a Ukrainian folksong: "Where are the flowers, the girls have plucked them. Where are the girls, they've all taken husbands. Where are the men, they're all in the army."
A powerful version in German, sung by singer/actress/activist Marlene Dietrich- "Sag' Mir, Wo Die Blumen Sind"
In French, by 60's pop chanteuse Dalida- "Que Sont Devenues les Fleurs"

Thanks for the post - my sister and I used to sing this all the time since my parents loved it so much . She and I were actually reminiscing about family car trips recently - and talked of how many times we did this song for them !
The version I remember growing up was the Peter Paul and Mary version (obviously this version below was done recently - I remember it from 40 years ago

I love all versions of the song. I wonder how much of the interpretation was lost or added through translation into the other languages.
Thank you for sharing and the education!!

Love the videos, and love the song - my mom used to sing the Peter Paul and Mary version as a lullaby. She'd take breaks every so often to smoke a joint. Just kidding....But as cheesy as the was, that song still makes me tear up sometimes!

The first time I heard this song, I must have been 8 or 9 on the radio. For some reason, I've always it was a German song as they played a German version which was not by Marlene Dietrich. Funny how our memory plays tricks on us, isn't it?
