MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

will finish after dinner

Okay much later than dinner, but here I am typing away forthe next installment from the ACL festival. First I must talk of something that peaves me to no end. Ben Harper did a cover of a Jimi Hendrix song(Voodoo Child). Being that we are in Texas he made a reference to Stevie Ray Vaughn, understandable, they did erect a bronze statue of him. But to hear others behind me commenting on the original, how they heard it by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Is disheartening, Not to insult Stevie Ray, but he paid alot of homage to Jimi, to put it politely. He did not write half of the work he did. He just replayed something Jimi mastered. So for all of you who are misinformed, please look it up, try google.

Seems to me this week in music has presented some challenges, in keeping my mind stable, and mouth stifled. Over all I love people, and know that they are just misinformed(as am I at times), or have little home training. Living the Dharma way is odious at times, and enlightenment will be an arduous journey. Bare with me.

Ben Harper was true to his craft. I have to say when he plays the guitar I can't help, but enjoy the way his face grimaces to each carefully plucked note. The higher the note, the more expression on his face. Yes I chose to be right up front. For those of you whom have seen him before know he plays his guitar flat like a steel guitar often (he did this time while playing Voodoo Child). The fact that it's not is what makes it so diverse. He played "black rain", this was a highlight for me. G-love came on, and rapped, a bit. He did a cover of Neil Young. He didn't play "Please Bleed", a favorite of mine. I know who am I to complain? As if I have some authority over another person?. eeehh. I'm human. Oh, Lance Armstrong intoduced him, a regular fixture here. In the end he invited, the Marley brothers out Damian, Stephen, and Juilian, I believe, may be wrong on the last brother(a lot happened in one weekend) They all did the last number together a cover of Bob Marley's "Get up", you know stand up for your rights. They were great, one of the brothers was accompanied by a little boy, hey was dancing, and very enthusiastic. Looking up at the preformers, with awe. What a finish. I have three of Ben Harper's albums, my hopes are to collect all of them, and have the opportunity to see him play again. As said before if he travels your path, make it a point to see him.
