WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

First music

Posted over 3 years ago
Can you remember the first music? Not of adolesence, but the first recollection? I remember being in my dad's car, I couldn't have been but, four, or five. He would play Neil Young's, After the Glod rush. At the time I had no idea of what, or who, Neil Young was. All I knew is that his songs mad my dad happy. Years later I would ask my father to play that castle song. He would always puzzle at me, and say what song? Finally, later I heard it on an easy listening station. Being my dad had played an 8track, he no longer had it, so I had to, pressure him into a repurchase. I love this album, it reminds me of my father. I have learned to appreciate Neil Young, and many other thanks to him. It is his gift to me, I will have long after he's gone.

  1. nicki says I remember family drives into (what is now left of) rural New Jersey and chasing NJ Transit trains around Stirling and Gillette. We were just approaching the tracks when I was completely taken by this song that seemed a mash of three perfectly-interlocked tunes. It was far too good for soft rock radio. Imagine my joy at discovering "Carry On," and Deja Vu, fifteen years later. It always feels new.

  2. yangelutza says Annie Lennox did a cover of, Don't let it Bring you Down, on her Medusa album. Had it not been her, I don't think of would have imbraced the makeover. But I know what you mean, his music has an eternal shelf life.
