Various sturdy sources claim this to be the oldest recording of music in existence.
In 1888 some clever folk in Ameriky recorded this simple acoustic performance using Edison's patented phonograph and a Berliner cylinder. Beneath the obvious surface noise there's a beautiful little tune.
If you disagree with this here benevolent claim then at least treasure this track an article of history: what followed was half a century of technological advances in recording format. And all of this came before radio, and well before the first vulcanite flat disc was pressed.
More on this as i learn: i have 3,000 tracks mastered from cylinders to get through before i can claim to know anything more.
Shalom.
