It's been a while since I've posted on this thing, but I was feeling particularly enthusiastic about this song just now.

"Rainy Night in Soho" is one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard in a while, and I thought I'd take the time to say that I strongly feel, as strongly as most people feel about "important" matters (i.e. the economy, religion, etc.), that more people should listen to The Pogues. There's far more to them than "Fairytale of New York," which I would rank as maybe only their fifth-best song, or so.
The last time I felt such an urgent need to push my music on to other people was 4 years ago, when I first heard The Clash(!!!). So this is pretty significant, I think. :)
It's one of those Friday nights where I have absolutely nothing to do because my friends are too busy applying to colleges and I'm too busy putting off that process as long as possible. So then, it's one of those Friday nights I spend downloading new music, trying to find a new band to like. By now, I've decided I don't like Yes, I don't love Boston but I don't dislike them enough to delete them, and I absolutely love Stars.
Any recommendations? FYI, my favorite bands as of right now are The Clash, Dandy Warhols, Stars, The Beatles (ALWAYS), and The Police. The "Top Songs This Week From MOGs Like Me" is telling me that I might like Keane and John Mayer. How disappointing.

Cocksparrer is always a solid choice as are The Damned, you most likely are going to want to look for early tracks by the Damned. College? really unless you know what you want to do for sure take your time.
Buzzcocks, New York Dolls (first two albums, don't know about the new one, Johnny Thunders is DEAD), Ramones. Always buy the first album first, especially with punk bands. Recommending those basically cuz you like the Clash. Dylan's maybe just not for most teenagers, even the ones who wind up liking him later, I wouldn't even bother checking him out at this point if I were you. Find the stuff you relate to, you'll relate to more later. Oh, get a best of Motorhead. Life is good, especially when it's loud and fast.
So earlier today my boyfriend's parents offered me tickets to a James Blunt concert. I considered my previous confession of never having been to a concert, ever, but James Blunt?! Doesn't satisfy the worthy/alive criteria, because while he may be living proof that life is unfair, since he gets to be alive and countless better musicians don't, he is most definitely not worthy. I remember once a friend said to me, "Elaine, it's not like you're losing your virginity," in an attempt to convince me to go with her to a Jason Mraz concert, but in a way, it is - and I'm not trying to suggest that I'm actually a slutty groupie at heart, or anything. The point of it is, although it may be somewhat embarrassing to admit that I've never been to a concert in the entire 17 years that I've had the chance to, give or take a couple for the barely conscious years at the beginning, it would be so much more embarrassing to admit that the first concert I had ever been to was James Blunt, who is entirely undeserving of anyone's virginity, musical or otherwise.
It's times like these that make me so mad at The Beatles for disbanding and dying, and causing me to miss out on possibly the greatest band ever.

Ooh the Pogues AND the Clash? I like you already!
Must admit I hadn't heard that song before but it certainly is a gem. Then again, being Irish, I feel obliged to appreciate anything by the Pogues lol. I haven't listened to them in a while now, and you've inspired to me to rekindle those embers! It's just a shame the state that Shane is in now, he goes on tv shows and it's just embarrassing to watch. Oh well, that's rock n roll lol.
