I know, it's ain't Thanksgiving anymore. But even in my pathetic little life, as I reflect back on the past year, I'm still a bit thankful for some things.
Family? Hell no.
Friends? Eh, dime a dozen.
Good health? Yeah, whatever.
No, I bought a house earlier this year. I'm thankful I managed to even buy one in this crazy market (I live in the Bay Area - not exactly cheap). And I'm even more thankful I have a little place to call my own where I can lounge in my underwear, eat a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and smoke a, er, cigar while sitting in front of the TV and watching "The Colbert Report." Ah, the good life.
So here, I dedicate this song/video to you, my quaint 3-bedroom, 1-bath abode, and all the homeowner madness that comes with you.
P.S. Y'all realize this is a transparent attempt to simply post one of my favorite '80's vids, right?

3 bedroom in the Bay Area...yeeesshh. My sister-in-law lived in the LA area and when they sold their house i was shocked by what they got for it. I feel no need to move to California. (no offense)
Home ownership is weird. Even though I am 36 I still am dismayed that I own a house. My house was built in 1929 and i don't think there has been updates to the plumbing since then, my husband is down in the basement snaking the drainage pipe again coz our basement is starting to flood. Oh the joys of home ownership indeed.
Merry Christmas. May Santa find you lounging in your underwear, eating cereal and smoking said cigar!

Our House by Madness has the best, most Kinksian, non-Ray Davies line of all time:
"Mother's tired, she needs a rest, the kids are playing up downstairs."
Pure fuckin' poetry.

No offense taken! Born 'n' bred in California. I'm just stuck here, I guess.
Sorry about the flooded basement, Teresa. If it's any consolation, I felt a small earthquake the other night. Damn you, Hayward Fault! Damn you to hell!

i like to enjoy the occasional "cigar" myself...

Ah...I knew I'd like to hear this song right now, but I didn't realize it would make me feel more Christmas-y than I have all night. I will now go to bed while visions of sugarplums dance in my head.

Woooo Madness!! Great song.
Yep Thrill, CA housing is way crazy, but the Bay Area and SoCal are the worst. A lot of the Bay Area people are buying houses here and commuting 2 hrs to work one way because they can't afford the buy one out there.
Congrats on the house Wire!

Awesome vid, and congrats on the house. :)
