I don't know if it's because I listen to my music incessently or maybe I'm growing more diverse in taste...and I have a feeling it's been influenced by my pop-culture generation.
But, I've been listening to/ downloading more Rap music lately than I ever have before. I've always liked rap, but considered the "rock" music I listen to regularly to be on a higher level of musical accomplishment. However, it's hit me these past two weeks that Rap music should be celebrated and enjoyed for it's musical quality, not just it's pop-culture trends.
Rap and Rock are now incomparible to me. It's not that "Rock" is better than "rap" or vice versa...they're 2 totally different, yet equally talented (in my opinion) ways of composing music and expressing emotion through the lyrics. So thumbs up to any decent form of musical expression. And it's good to hear a change of pace on the ole' i-pod.

April 26, 2007....Charlotte, NC....
Muse will be opening for MCR in what will be the most emo concert I've ever gone to. Personally, I believe MCR should be opening for Muse, who I think is a much better band musically and definitely vocally. I've only recently "gotten into" some MCR stuff, and I enjoy it musically solely for their guitarist and because of their lyrics...especially the lyrics on Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. It should be a decent show though, because Muse has been acclaimed as one of the best live bands, which should balance out MCR who does not sound that good live in my opinion.
I hate finding bands after they have already broken up...because then you can never see them in concert..That recently happened to me when I discovered Death From Above 1979 for myself, only to be trumped by the fact that this talented duet does no longer work together...It hurts the place where my soul should be.
I have come to find that going to concerts has become like a hobby for me..so to end this semi-confessional post..I will leave you with a short list of bands or musicians that I would like to see play live..who I haven't seen yet.
Ben Folds
Bloc Party
Cassettes Won't Listen
Gym Class Heroes (so I can pick up their guitarist's solo EP "Nine Years Later")
Motion City Soundtrack
Panic! at the Disco
The Shins
Taking Back Sunday
We Are Scientists
Weezer

D'oh, I hope there's not another addition to the "Fell for them after they broke up" category, but it's possible that Weezer won't do more records. But with psycho Rivers, ya never know.
i have a feeling the bulk of people [with any sense] think that mcr should be opening for muse... i've seen gym class heroes, two falls ago before i knew any of their stuff- it was a "hardcore" show [emery, as cities burn, heislegend] and they were fun to throw in teh mix. on NPR's website you can find a bloc party set from the 9:30 club that's pretty good and as for panic..beh..but hey, to each his own!
have a great one!
I, like most of my peer group, have been toying with the idea of starting a band with my friends..and we have the instruments too...a drum set..a couple of good key boards...electric guitars and acoustics..and an acoustic/electric base guitar..all combined..with some amps to go around too.
But anyways, everybody knows the most fun part of starting a band is naming it, because I can't think of writing lyrics or composing music without the assurance of a good band name. Some of the favorite early names floating around included "Chapter Black", "Brian's Better", "The Suitcase Incident"....and a ton of others to boot.
But I think I got a really good name in my head now...stemming from my favorite band Death Cab for Cutie.
Death Cab took their name from a Gonzo Dog Doo Da Band song "Death Cab for Cutie"...
I would like to also carry on this tradition of band names from songs, and who's better to borrow a name from than "the late great" Daniel Johnston..who is a major influence for Death Cab's front man Ben Gibbard.
The song in mind I liked as a band name is "Unpack my Adjectives"....just let that simmer of your tounge...now we should start making some music.

my favorite pac album was makaveli, front to back it was his most consistent project .. to me at least
As with any genre of music, hip-hop has lyrical and musical masterpieces as well as pop-chart "made-for-profit" hits. Unfortunately, quite a bit of the latter makes it to the general public while the good stuff takes a little more exploration to get to... But branching out to different genres is always good.
thank you for the comments.
