MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Every once in awhile, whether it's a new song or a song I used to love and just rediscovered, I have a musical epiphany of sorts. Sometimes a song just couldn't be more perfect for the moment and it makes you feel invincible. It's an amazing feeling. I only wish I could hold onto it a little longer.

i love it when that happens.. it's the best when you can pretend that in some way you are involved in what is going on in the song.

Yes, this is a great feeling when it happens. In medical speak, they call it a "peak experience". The phrase was coined by psychologist Abraham Maslow. Holding on to that euphoric feeling a little longer is the very basis of the work of English writer Colin Wilson, most notably in his book, The Outsider. Anyway, nice post. The last song to significantly enhance my mood is Snowden by Doves.

Yes.........These experiences are so special BECAUSE you cannot hang on to them indefinitely. The fleeting nature of such feelings is a large part of their appeal.

Yeah, good point. Somebody should tell poor Colin Wilson -- he's written book after book on this phenomenon, when all he's got to do is put on his favorite records...and wait.

Do i detect a note of sarcasm?

Nope. Straight up agreeing with you. Wilson has written himself into a corner when the solution, like all the best things in life, could be much simpler.

OK then. lol Some folks do tend to over-complicate things. Usualy when they're tryin' to intellectualize feelings. I say....Go with it, Don't think...FEEL.

katattack- yesss, almost as if it's a soundtrack to your life.

flux- wow, thanks for the info, I had no idea there was actually a term for it. And the Doves song - amaazing.

and deadman- that is a great point. I suppose the whole "gone so fast" thing is what makes a great deal of things in this world great. I mean, being on vacation every single day would severely downplay it's freedom and escape and such, right?

whencitiesfall. Thats exactly the point. We rob ourselves when we allow what's special to become mundane.
