Not sure if anybody else does things like this... or if anyone even cares. But much like a drinking game is used to facilitate the consumption of alcohol... I come up with games of sorts with music to find new songs/albums/musicians that i've never heard before. Some tend to be in my very own collection. So tonight, I've scoured my music collection for:

Songs that have someone famous' name in it.

I've come across one of my favorite Head Automatica "I Shot William H. Macy" and a song that I haven't listened to in a loooong time, Everclear's "Otis Redding"

If anyone else has a minute to think or scan their music, what other songs do you know/not know that fall into this category?

So I've crawled to this place to seek solace and hope after the final judgement today. A piece of my life will be gone after they liquidate Tower Records outlets worldwide. God, and you'd think that living in NYC you'd feel comfortable with one of the alternatives. Any other NYers here will bombard me with the indie stores and big Virgin stores that are scattered across this area. But nothing felt as safe, true and comfortable as a Tower. The one on Broadway & W4th St is where I have purchased nearly all my music in the past 3 years. I have learned which aisle hold what, when sales begin and end, and even the names and faces of some who work there. I know what time they place the new releases on the shelves on Tuesdays (11:30am) and I dont know what I'll do without them.

For now, I'll take advantage of my final time with the stores and hope that an alternative will come along.

I'm sure some can relate, and many others cannot. To any who still buy music in a tangible form, let me just pose a question: how would you feel if you couldnt any longer?

Goodbye Tower

You, my friend, need to head further downtown and spend some time at J&R. It's the only possible cure. Virgin will just throw you into a depression.

Sad...teen years spent at Tower in DC (downtown)...college years at Tower NY (4th & B'way)...and many of these years at Tower Sunset in LA...well, until Amoeba came along anyway. I must say though, much of Tower's stuff was waaay overpriced up until a few years ago, when they had to lower prices to compete. Still, there are great (under $10) catalog discounts to be found now...too bad it didn't make a difference. But at the end of the day, the music biz (labels and stores) did it to themselves, I believe. Too many years of charging upwards of $20 for something that costs $1 to manufacture...not to mention all the terrible karma built up from years of greedhead white managers fucking over all those black blues artists and early rock-n-rollers. I feel for artists - but not labels or managers or greedy music chains. No Way. Good riddance.

Please forgive me, as my intention is not to be an arrogant prick.. nor is it to flaunt anything. This is primarily because i have very little that'd I would consider flaunting anyways. Regardless, I am about to create a widget about the coolest people I've met. My job is working with "celebrities"... but does making this widget make ME a turd sandwich?
