Countdown

Armageddon

By the time 2006 rolls around we see Killing Joke going through their usual rampage of grandiose plans and preaching the inevitable end time message of the world.  BUT...we get a new album.  And this time it seems to be with a stable line up.  Ben on drums and Rez on keyboards.  A new album is produced and the market is flooded with fantastic reissues and obscure material.

Hosannas is an okay record.  Under produced and the songs could have stood a decent editing.  In usual fashion though tragedy strikes.

First we lose Paul Raven to Ministry.  Raven has never been one to sit around idle for too long.  So when Killing Joke was in post recording down time the opportunity came up to play with Ministry.  So he did.  Which was a bit of a bummer for the Killing Joke camp but understood if you knew anything about Paul and the situation

Second. We lose Raven.  This time fatally.  In his sleep.  Everyone was gutted.  And still is really.  It came out of nowhere.

Everyone assumed, and rightfully so, that he would return to the band.  They even had fill in bass players for UK shows.

This put quite a damper on my Halloween.  Basically it ruined it.  Came just days before.

Raven was a giant in character.  Always good for a laugh and ready to talk.  I am fortunate enough to converse with him one on one a few times.
You will be missed.

In a turn of events we get the original Killing Joke to reunite.  This seemed impossible.  And everyone knows that the tragedy of Raven is the reason why.  But I am going to go into hat next time.

Today’s shirt was given to me by someone who attended one of the UK shows during the Hosannas promotions.  I dare say the person went to the show out of spite knowing that I would love to go.  But I guess it is the thought that counts.

ANYWAY

The shirt is from the EXCELLENT 7" of War Dance and b side of Pssyche.  Two songs that live in infamy in the Killing Joke library.  What are the chances?  Kiss hade Beth (a shit song I know) as a b-side to Detroit Rock City (a shit song I know) and Killing Joke has Pssyche.

AAAGGGgggggghhhhhhhhhh.  Almost here
