I can't explain it. Maybe because I am finally, finally, FINALLY starting to get over this stupid cold and my moronisism (made up word I know) is at full peak. Maybe it's the sun beaming on a crisp winter day. The snow is melting (but still blinding beautiful in the sun) while the birds chirp and poop while squirrels burrow for frozen nuts and try to avoid cars while the kids scream their heads off coming home from school with the jackets off and being dragged behind them. It's barely in the mid 30's but the sun is out so it is easy to forget that it is still cold. Ooooorrrrr maybe it's that I get to see one of the most amazing persons that I've ever met in my life in a couple of hours. Or something else. Or a combination of all of the above.So Slade, to me, is just happy, silly straight forward rock n roll. I can't be in a bad mood when listening to them. And I am talking early Slade (glam? era). Even though Get You Hands Off Of My Power Supply is still good. You don't have to think about it. Just listen and have fun.A couple of summers back I was doing every real estate, garage, flea, junk sale in the tri-state are. One of my missions was to get good copies, on vinyl, of the Kinks and Slade. It was fun and I'm pretty close to wrapping up that mission.They didn't make much of a dent here in the US. But the people that liked them liked them a lot. There is even a Cheap Trick reference. They were asked how they came up with the name and they said something to the effect that they were at a Slade concert and how they were using ever..."cheap trick" in the book.I can certainly imagine that. It's about getting up and getting out of your seat. Clap your hands and stomp your feet. And get down and get with it.Nothing deep or heavy. Just keep a rocking.
