All we are sayingggg...

After watching the movie "The U.S. vs. John Lennon", I realized how crazy our government was...and still is..I just dont understand how cops and "the man" could look at the peacenicks and go "Wow, they are a threat to the US! We better bring them down" So they attack the people minding their own business and singing All you need is love, and Give peace a chance and injure many of them for no reason. It's ridonkulus. They were just speaking their minds and it is a free country sooo I dont see the problem. John's songs really had an affect on the people and I think that's one of the best things about that time. That artist could sing about the government and how wrong the war was and people could relate so well. I think thats how our country grew together, through music. Course I didnt live back then, but I kinda wish I did, just to see how it really was.

  1. capndad says It was a war against a new way of thinking. John Lennon's approach to "the system" became an icon for all of those who had decided the old way had had its time and needed to step aside. The "counter culture" found prophets in its emerging radical music. Woodstock and Monterey were weekend conferences from which spread a cultural epidemic that spread in ways and with such haste as can only be dreamed of by today's marketing gurus. The establishment viewed the uprising as a danger to a way of life, when in fact it was simply that day's representation of youthful rebellion that has always been a part of the exchange of generations. Drug use, a previously hidden vice, was now in the open combined with free expression of frustrations, and it had to be conquered. Today's establishment consists of the rebels of yesteryear, and the need for open rebellion has given way to the new mores that you now enjoy. So it makes sense that you find the visuals strange and repulsive. But you had to be there.
