WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Wedding Songs - Out of the Mainstream

Posted about 3 years ago
Help, oh wise moggers.. I'm tying the knot in January.. and no, you're not invited, small ceremony only.. sorry.. but I could use some help. We're putting together a power-point kind of thing with pictures and music, and I'm looking for your thoughts on the best love songs that are a little out of the mainstream.. I really like John Hiatt's, "Have a Little Faith in Me".. and Sarah MacLachlan's "Push".. something soft, with a great lyric, but that isn't "Endless Love" or "Unchained Melody"..

  1. dead mike says damn you canuks!!! You never invite us to weddings any more!!! powerpoint and weddings should not go together, unless you are talking about the honeymoon. then it's more powerpoint!!! I was thinking *Metallica's* +Nothing Else Matters+ Very touching lyrics... So close no matter how far Couldnt be much more from the heart Forever trusting who we are And nothing else matters Never opened myself this way Life is ours, we live it our way All these words I dont just say And nothing else matters

  2. wdog says ..well no promises about the honeymoon - and I tend to agree about the wedding thing with power point - but this one does have some method to it's madness.. there's an 11 year difference in our ages.. and we're playing songs from each of our eras growing up.. you know, for me, starting school would be "Hey Jude", her's would be "Video Killed the Radio Star"..lol.. so, we're not doing the typical "Endless Love" rehash.. though she's fighting me using "My Sharona".. .you know.. "Never gonna stop, give it up. Such a dirty mind. Always get it up for the touch of the younger kind." And hey, the Metallica Tune I'm just listening to know - nice..

  3. Treasure says I always liked "True Companion" by Marc Cohn. I don't know if that's far enough out of the mainstream for you or not, but it's a beautiful song and I rarely hear it used at a wedding. How about "I Will" or "Got to Get You Into My Life" by the Beatles? I know these aren't exactly names that are foreign to the soundscape, but neither one of these songs is used too frequently in this context, and both are really perfect. Other Options The Beach Boys - God Only Knows Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize? Iron and Wine - Love and Some Verses Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - You're All I Need to Get By Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones Van Morrison - Sweet Thing

  5. debi says Roberta Flack's " First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" The first time ever I saw your face I thought the sun rose in your eyes And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave To the night and the empty skies my love To the night and the empty skies The first time ever I kissed your mouth I felt the earth turn in my hand Like the trembling heart of a captive bird That was there at my command my love That was there at my command The first time ever I lay with you And felt your heart beat close to mine I thought our joy would fill the earth And would last till the end of time my love And would last till the end of time
