Batman sues Batman over Batman

The mayor of Batman, Turkey, is suing Warner Bros. and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan for using the Cape Crusader's name without the city's permission.

Variety reports Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of the predominantly Kurdish town located in the Batman province of Turkey on the Batman River, is preparing to file a series of charges against Nolan and Warner Bros. for royalties from the blockbuster film.

"There is only one Batman in the world," Kalkan said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

He also hopes to pin a number of unsolved murders along with the town's female suicide rate on the psychological impact the film's success had on Batman residence, the publication said. (Why so serious?)

Kalkan claims to have evidence that will prove the city of Batman was founded before the 1939 debut of DC Comic's superhero by the same name.

Why the city is complaining now about its name being used for masked justice may have something to do with The Dark Knight having grossed over $994 million worldwide so far.

Of course, one could also speculate the city could have figured this out much sooner with the assistance of Batman, the world's greatest detective. Alas, therein lies the crux of the problem.

Warner Bros. said it hasn't been served with a lawsuit yet from Kalkan. ®

Listen to Jay-Z and Coldplay's New Song!

Brit quartet -- and former SPIN cover boys -- Coldplay recently joined forces with New York rap impresario Jay-Z on a remix of Viva La Vida cut "Lost!" for their forthcoming Prospekt's March EP. Now, hear the genre-breaking tune -- entitled "Lost+" -- for yourself!

Debuting yesterday on Ryan Seacrest's radio show (um…?), the track's instrumentation hasn't changed much from its original version, but Jay-Z's guest verse fits perfectly within its rubber band rhythms and bombastic melodies. Listen to the tune below and offer your thoughts on the collaboration in the comment section below.

Don't kill me, but I almost blew up the LifeJive server yesterday... i dont even want to tell you what i did, but it was one of the dummer things i've done in a while..

Hence, on my website, the forum topic "server maintenance" which was code for "i screwed up and im trying to fix it as fast as i can."

No worries, i think the computer will be ok for a while... but there maybe like 20 minutes today where it goes down again..

bear with me!

Sigur Ros is the new sliced bread...

ahh there is nothing like a great find at a used record store... I have been a Sigur Ros fan for quite some time now and often go through periodic phases of obsession (as you do w/ any great band).

So lately, i met this new friend, Kristin and she lovvvves Sigur Ros just as much as i do (dare i say, if not more) and she has brought Sigur Ros back to one of my top played artists according to the Mog prog..

So anyways, i was in the store the other day and picked up a super rare 3inch single by Sigur Ros entitled (according to iTunes) "() Untitled #1"

I've heard Vaka before, but i just wanted to express how groundbreaking this band really is in modern music.

In previous posts i've talked about how the music of today isnt quite the same creative level as certain music from the past. All that aside, Sigur Ros may even have stumbled onto what could be their on Genre. I couldnt say for sure, im not professional music critic, but after watching their DVD Doco, Heima, I love how they just sit down, play music, get the vibe of whatever presence they can create, and run with it....

may sound unstructured, but seems to be working!

LIKE OH. LIKE H. IN YOUR GUT.

^ (ref to title) ^ i think thats the Tegan lyric...

dont ya love that? when you have a favorate song that you turn up load everytime in your car and you're singing the lyrics that you think are the lyrics but yet you really have no idea what they are... it just sounds about right to you..

which reminds me..

Story time.

my friend and i where on a roadtrip last new years and there was a song off the damien rice album (9) and i can't remember the track name, but the chorus goes like this "annnn i feeelll sooo...... loooonnnnneeellllllly........" it sounded like "lonely" or "lovely"....

but then we looked up the lyric and it said "HOOORNEY!" we where so pissed! we thought this was a song about true love with deep meaning only to find out it was about wanting to get laid!

RAR.

it was funny at least...

Music Critics: Today & Yesterday

Maybe its just me, but i've got this crazy idea that music critics (like most of the music today) is going downhill.

Now i'm not trying to be a negative black balloon.. there are some great modern bands, but in all honesty, theres a lot of music today that is only half baked and with a little more effort, could be taken to that next level of creativity!

ahhh but im doing the exact thing i set out to talk about.... and that is the modern music critics are too angry and critical!
I'm a semi-collector of 60's & 70's Rolling Stone Magazines (more or less anything w/ Cameron Crowe) and it seems that at the time all the articles have this 'love vibe' where they feel so privileged to be into the music and all they want to do is include you too!

then, theres todays critics which sound like the first paragraph that i wrote (except better with words) and they've got this nose-high-to-the-world attitude that seeps out of there words. Its almost like they walk around saying "i know music, i can see through musicians, and if you disagree with me, its b/c you're not as educated or clearly don't have a music taste of quality like me.... oh an btw, i hate happy bands"

i dunnnoo... maybe its just me.

thoughts?

ahhh the Moldy Peaches. Who doesn't love em?!

For those of us that are die hard fans, we are all deeply in love with their humor, instrumentation and absurd (yet borderline genious) songs...

so i was youtubing the other night and came across the perfect video that summed up the MP's... I won't say too much to spoil the suprises, but hang in there till around 4:40... the most hilarious random thing happens with the flute player.... its great!

Say Anything - about the sountrack

i watched the Cameron Crowe classic, 'Say Anything' the other night... you know the movie, the famous picture of John Cusack holding up the boombox? (probably one of my favorite poster shots of all time) well the song he was playing was Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes"

i was negative 2 years old when it came out, so bare with me as im a new fan... but yeh ever since i heard that song, its turned me into the biggest Genesis/Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel fans of all time... Peters song from Vanilla Sky (another cameron crowe movie) "Solsbury Hill" is also another fricken awesome song...

this post is kinda pointless other then me letting you know that im addicted and in awe...

THE BOSS IS THE MAN.

i know hes been around forever.. my dad for years has told me "son, if you want real rock n roll, get some Bruce Springsteen..."

well it took long enough, but i finally bought the Born in the USA LP about a year ago for like 50 cents...

i forgot about the album, left the country for a year, came back only a few months ago to find the album in my closet gathering dust next to my phill collins Face Value LP (another classic album)... i instantly put the album on the record player and havent taken it off... for wahtever reason leaving the country made me so proud of the song Born in the USA and whenever it comes on my brother an i get so hyped up that we begin singing at the top of our longs and nearly punching each other from the energy of the music...

whata rockstar...

i love the string quartets!

it was hard to tag b/c there are always different artists who do the covers, but most of them are extremely well done! i recently got the van morrison tribute, and its not something i could jam to in the car, but when in a relaxed mood, its a perfect fit for the time...
its also really helped me open up my taste and respect for other genres of music... most people today seem to be very narrow minded whethere they are just radio mainstrem listeners, or hard core indie fans, everyone seems to find their nitch and stay in one place... why not open the doors for other kinds of music? i remember reading a book by Don Miller called Blue Like Jazz and he said he got the name for the book b/c he never liked jazz until he saw a street performer playing his heart and soul out... his reasoning was that sometimes we have to see someone enjoying something before we ourselves can try and see the beauty that they have found in their art...

sorry if that doesnt make sense, im off to bedskies..

where do u turn in loneliness?

so lately ive been taking note to what i resort to in times of trouble, trial, or more specificly, loneliness.... when i used to drink, that was my escape on a daily basis from my problems... but now that i've given that up, i find myself struggling to find a "gettaway"... maybe God doesnt want us to have a gettaway? what if He wants us to find our gettway in Him?

its hard following God, but the longterm reward is worth it... and frankly thats all im going to say b/c im im way tooo tired to try and attempt and act intelligent...

Deep thought on 'Rave on John Donne'

first, let me start off with the obvious; van morrison is true brilliance...

i was listening and reading the lyrics to his song Rave on John Donne, and was curious to the names he was mentioning in the song (Omar Khayyam, Kahlil Gibran, Walt Whitman, 'Mr Yeats, and of course, John Donne)... so i quickly went to google to then find out that the different men he was referring to where famous poets that had clearly influenced his work... thus gathering that it was a purely a song celebrating and showing appreciation for their work...

in one particular part, he says:
Rave on let a man come out of Ireland
Rave on on Mr. Yeats,
Rave on down through the Holy Rosey Cross
Rave on down through theosophy, and the Golden Dawn
Rave on through the writing of "A Vision"
Rave on, Rave on, Rave on, Rave on, Rave on, Rave on

when i looked up "yeats poetry" on google, i found a man, W.B. Yeats who was a modern poet who lived up until the 1930's... i breifly wrote this off as another influence that van admired... but after clicking around i soon found there was another man, Jack Butler Yeats... and Jack Butler was an irish painter who had a painting called "A Vision" but for whatever reason it was "never liked much by people"... i mean, i cant even find a picture of it in the web! lol and after looking at JB Yeats paintings, i started to think that lines in the lyric above where Vans description and interpretation of some of his fav paintings... (for instance, 'Golden Dawn' i think is a reference to the painting "Morning after Rain")

alllll that to say that i then thought it was ironic how he doesnt refer to JB Yeats in this song with his full name, only "Mr. Yeats" which lead me to believe that Van was leaving it open to the listener to say whether he is talking bout WB Yeats or JB Yeats (one being a poet and the other being a painter, but both are influences on him)

ANNNND on top of that, John Donne is a famous poet/preacher/etc who "is considered a master of the conceit, an extended metaphor that combines two vastly unlike ideas into a single idea, often using imagery" (thanks wiki)

this is only just a hint to vans mastermind as i only covered a few short lines in a long beautiful song...

cheers to those who read this... you're my rockstar.

so dude, you know those songs you used to jam out to as a lil kid that (even if they suck) they make you go crazy b/c of your fond memories? for me, i have awesome memories of when i was little w/ my brother and used to 'air concert' while jumping on the bed and tearing the house apart thinking we where in a rockshow...

so yeh since i live in new zealand now and my brother is in texas, we just talk over the webcams and the other day found ourselves air guitaring and jamming at the same time via webcast in completely different parts of the world... it was killer.

i'm getting back to my relaxation musical mood... lol i go through phases where i listen to hard (or classic) rock day and night... then a couple months later i'll switch to folk music, then jazz, then alternative, then 90's... and occasionally i'll have a weekend where i listen to hip hop/rap....

as of now im listening to my Garden State Soundtrack, Alexi Murdoch, Nick Drake, Damien Rice to name a few... any other suggestions of singer song writers like these guys?

listen to the song ive tagged to this post, Old Man by Lizz Wright... its incredible and has really been a door opener for me into liking jazz music... ive always had respect for jazz, but never really been able to listen to it and enjoy the company... between Lizz Wright, and a New Zealand band called Twin Set (who opened for John Mayer) ive really been getting into some good music lately!

band breakups

quick and to the point thoughts before going to work....

RAGE (head bangs and screams)----to be honest, i am a huge RATM fan, but don't really care for Audioslave... i dont know all the details of the rage breakup, but it'd be awesome if they got together for one more album or even a worldwide tour... thats my wish * folds hands and flutters eyelids *

but sometimes this world treats us nicely, and says "hey world of people, we've heard your crys, and we're going to give you a little treat.... here, heres the smashing pumpkins again... but just one album, so dont ask again or get all mooshy on us..."

hip.hy.hor.ray.

Damien is on the road again and i am so pumped he is coming to New Zealand!!!

his new album is awesome, but to tell you the truth, ive heard it all before... as much as i hate downloading illegal music, i did happen to find alot of "unreleased" material on limewire about a year ago... stuff from concerts or jus cut material from his debut album, 'O'

so imagine my surprise when i got the new album and i knew the words the first time i played the cd... buuut non the less, hes still an amazing artist and if you for some reason havent gotten addicted to him yet, you need to pleasure yourself and get some DR in your blood.
