I find the list of people's top 10 albums so far of 2008 rather humbling. Still catching myself up on the 15 or so years of music I mostly missed and don't at this point even own 10 albums released in 2008. That in mind, I do have three 2008 releases to list on what I guess I'll call my retro list.
1. The Presidents of the United States of America - These are the Good Times People - Damn! This is one amazing come-back album by a band that released one of my classic all-time favorites back in 1995 and then pretty much fell of the face of the earth, as far as I knew. Every track is great, fun, wonderful high energy real rock-n-roll. They've done it a second time. This disc hasn't left my player since I got it. "Mixed Up S.O.B."
2. OK - reaching here - as this is a re-release of a '83 EP combined with an '85 album - Jason and the Scorchers - Fervor/Lost & Found - Long out of print and hard and expensive to find. Caroline Records remastered and repacked this and re-released it a few months ago - This is the band that defines the genre "Cow-Punk" and this is their best stuff - rush now to add it to you collection before it's gone again. Check out this post of mine for more and a couple more cuts.
3. Honorable Mention - B-52 - Funplex - Not quite Cosmic Thing good, and nothing thing earth shattering here, but solid fun B-52's, 16 years since their last release.
4. And then there’s this – Ida Maria – Fortress Round My Heart – Debut to be released 7/28/08 in UK, and I hope in US soon – This stuff really floats my boat. Hottest new thing I’ve heard for sure since start of the year. (and more here if you want)

That's great news on Ida Maria! I've been a fan ever since someone posted on her over a year ago. (Well it seems that long if it wasn't.) She was on Jools Holland and seduced me even more, so I'll be down to Fopp on the day it's released.

Sctfrere - yeah, you're right my history is rather incomplete - have heard some of the stuff in between, but not much and never as garabbed by it as was their first and latest - but help me here, of the other stuff what is best?

I need to get my claws on that TPOTUSOA (whoah!) album, sigh.
You already know how I feel about Ida Maria, she's definitely a precious one.
Don't feel bad about not having too many 2008 albums. I love me some retro. Plus, I can just delete my whole list and write: Tom Waits (yeah, took me a while...).
