Roy Buchanan
5th in a series, (Posts 1, 2, 3, 4) where I'm taking the easy way out on the life story and just giving the batch of links below for more info for you all to peruse if interested. Suffice it to say Roy is one of the all time great players. Unfortunately my digital collection of Roy is limited and I don't have available the cover of Hey Joe he did, but here's another Hendrix tune he covered as well - If Six Was Nine - Roy's vocals don't match Jimmy but the guitar work sure does Links for this series to more info on Roy Buchanan: All Music, Wiki, Hotshot, Blue Notes, Sweet Dream of, TexasRat (fan blog), Smokestack, Encyclopedia of Arkansas

Killa!
Really enjoying your series Dutch! Been a big fan of Roy's ever since I played with him back in '73. Hhmmm, well perhaps I should clarify. Roy was opening for Joe Walsh at nearby Dayton's Hara Arena. My friend and I were front row center for the festival seating event, right in front of Roy when he came out. The temporary stage floor was constructed of plywood panels with no sepearation from the crowd, and there was a finger size knothole about a foot in - right next to Roy's effect units. Through his blistering blues set, when his foot wasn't on the effects, Roy was trying to step on the various fingers that popped up through the knothole, grinning and egging-on his front row spectators with ever quicker moves and stomps. An odd concert experience I'll never forget!
SF - Great story! Thanks! ...and the fact that he was opening for Joe Walsh is the prefect set-up for the next post in this series. Think I got two more in me, then maybe some other Moggers (hint, hint) can help fill out both his earlier or later stuff, as all I'm really working with here is from a complation of his Alantic sessions.
I do prefer Jimi's vocals, but Roy is not imitative at all on the guitar, where most guitarists who cover Hendrix consider it their calling to hit every note and impress everyone. I would add to your Buchanan postings but that one LP I own is not yet digitized. One of these days....
whats not to like!
