.Well, it's been awhile since I last posted, all’s well (except got to get adjusted to the new look here) just been preoccupied with other obsessions. .So, got my hands on this great EP CD of Jason and the Nashville Scorchers – Reckless Country Soul – it’s the first release by this band (after this they dropped “Nashville” from their name) plus five other “lost” songs they recorded shortly after. Originally I was going to write about that… .But then looking into who originally did the cover songs on this CD discovered interesting bios on Jimmie Rodgers the original artist who did this tune Jimmie Rodgers’ Last Blue Yodel. Excuse my ignorance, but I didn’t know about “The Singing Brakeman” before and found out Jimmie Rodgers was the first artist inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961; and 25 years later, he was also inducted as a founding father at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Interesting read, guy has like 13 songs just titled Blue Yodel #1 to Blue Yodel # 13 in his catalog. Here’s some interesting links for more on Jimmie Rodgers – if you’re not familiar with him (as I wasn’t) I suggest you check it out, I found it fascinating. Anybody got some good Jimmie Rodgers to post?:.http://mshistory.k12.ms.us/index.php?id=39.http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:jifoxql5ldde~T1.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmie_Rodgers_%28country_singer%29.http://www.jimmierodgers.com/home.html.So, I’ll write up more on Jason and the Scorchers some other day. For now this is a Sunday Under the Covers a day or so early. Jason and the Scorchers, doing what I assume must be a rather punked out version of a song Jimmie Rodgers recorded only a few days before his death in 1933, Jimmie Rodgers’ Last Blue YodelJimmie Rodgers

  3. dermahrk says I will be posting some prime Jimmie Rodgers over the next several months. Why? Because I just received a 5-CD Jimmie Rodgers box set in the mail last week. I must admit that I am really not that familiar with his music, but always wanted to investigate it. Then, I bought that Hank Williams box set and love it *SO* much that, when someone posted a Jimmie Rodgers track on MOG and it had a similar sound (with lots of yodeling), I made the leap. I have a rigid little system for absorbing new music, which involves breaking up box sets into bite-size chunks of a dozen songs or so, and altering which box set chunk I'm listening to this week. Jimmie will be in rotation with the Nat King Cole jazz trio - that 4-CD Proper box set arrived this week. So, it will take a long while but I will get there. Glad to have you back here! And I just now listened to the Jason track, which is great. I imagine Jimmie's version is a bit different, but this really rocks.
