Clubs are Halloween, MySpace is suggestive (or at least True.com)

Recently reading SPIN, something caught my eye in their SPIN OUT section. Not the clubs that I'm not attractive or popular enough to get into, but a quick description of a karaoke night in Louisville. By itself, a karaoke night is nothing to talk about, but when it features indie giants VHS or Beta and My Morning Jacket (guest appearances..), it;s special. What stands out here is not the bands' karaoke skills, but their devotion to their hometown. Upon first look-and-listen, you would be totally sane to presume that VHS or Beta are from the Williamsburg, Brooklyn (it will never be Williamsburg, VA...where's your Colonial history founding America's modern legislature and tied-in tourism?...and Jamestown DOES NOT EXIST AS AN ACTUAL CITY IN VA.) scene. You're wrong (and so was I) because they're from Louisville, an unlikely choice for this highly-entertaining dance-rock band. It's great to see artists stick to thier roots. Even Pharell (and Chad of the Neptunes), Timbaland, and Missy Elliot either base their business here in the 757 (Missy) or live here (Timmy, Skateboard P). All of them live in Miami, go figure.MySpace. I made you cringe a little, didn't I? Personally, I don't mid the site...but I spend more time on Facebook. What really gets me are the True.com adverts, all of them lacking the quality of subtlety. The one I see the least but find the most interesting is this one:
Sex sells, and it always will, and I don't feel like stopping that aspect of marketing while I'm young.
