THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

Throbbing Gristle first US tour since 1981 (in case you missed it)

Posted 6 months ago

And so if, like me, you missed any of the recent performances and were curious, some beautiful concert-goers have made postings to YouTube. A simple search of Throbbing Gristle 2009 yields a few pages of short and long clips posted by these kind souls. For the record, the additions grow. I posted some findings this past Sunday and since then, others have been added. Here are a couple:

From Coachella:

And from NYC 4/25/09 (mislabelled at the youtube posting, though):

If you like a little Throbbing Gristle in the ear or eye (or both:), this is a must. If not, at least check out the second vid as it's a new aural treatment for Derek Jarman's "In The Shadow Of The Sun".

Cheers!

Absolutely fucking brilliant! And why hasn't there been a post from you about it yet?  Did you get anything signed?  Where did you see them and did you get to see the soundtrack portion?  Oh and congratulations!!

I should make a post, though I've found that I actually enjoy reliving it through other people's blogs and flickr pools.  But, for my own records, I probably will.

Get ready for my next rare post to Mog... ;)

I didn't get anything signed, mostly because I'd probably pass out from excitement. I saw them at the Masonic Hall in Brooklyn, on the second night there [apparently their last night in the US].  Night one's audience got to see the soundtrack, I was quite jealous of a couple of buddies of mine.

The show, in general, had a tribal feel to it.  There was less of the cold industrial scape and more of Gen P as shaman.  My only complaint was the uneeded presence of their manager on stage.  It was distracting and I felt just rude to the audience who came to see TG, not his be-hatted self.

I'm sure he's a nice guy- just get the hell off the stage- ya know?

I've been enjoying others' experiences vicariously and with great enthusiasm, is why I ask.  Too, as one of the experiences I found was not from the perspective of a TG fan and I stopped reading when they commented on surrounding fashion.  What's funny is that there was a discussion on the Coil list about the manager - all to the negative as well.  "Because God Told Me To Do It" has posted mp3s of some of the shows (or at least links to them), but I can't remember if your date was one of them.  At any rate, good on you!  And thanks in advance for the post:)  Be well.
