A few Jazz gems at Destination-Out

Posted over 5 years ago
Finally getting around to listening to these pieces. I'll get to the Sun Ra in a minute, but right now I'm listening to this track from Martino, Baiyina, from the album Baiyina(The Clear Evidence), 1968. This piece is blowing me away. I'm not embedding the link, I'm asking you to please follow to www.destination-out.com, as that's the original site and more importantly, the information is impeccable. The Sun Ra pieces are out of print and necessary. Album: New Steps, from January 1978 when he took a quartet to Italy, incl. John Gilmore on sax. Of interest is the scaled down performance of Ra. More info at Destination-Out! Post titles:(Martino)On the Bus, or: Your ’60s Hangover is our Breezy Summer Special / The Universe as Glimpsed in a Hand Mirror(Sun Ra) You won't be sorry.

  2. qf8 says The Cecil Taylor that was posted on D:O recently was also pretty fabulous. I'm sad that I missed out on the old Zorn bop tunes that were posted.

  3. wassonii says Yes, just a reminder that Destination Out, while very cool, can only keep these tracks around for a little while, so check them out soon. The Cecil Taylor YES! good stuff. Dogon A.D.(Hemphill), too.
