After rocking out, she then told me, "I'm a robot. Robots never stop rocking out." I had to get her to say it again to catch it on video...

My daughter just turned 3 last month. She is TOTALLY over the "kids" music. When she hears something I'm listening to that she likes, she asks me who it is. Her current favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. She has made me sing "Insane in the Brain" at bedtime, so she's a bit of a Cypress Hill fan, too.

Today I played Blood Sugar Sex Magik for her in the car. This is her rocking out. Her thumb action? She said "these thumbs like to rock out."

As time passes, an' she understands more n more, you may reasess SOME of the music ya gonna play around the house. Ya wouldn't want her repeating some of the things she hears in songs.

Artist: Elliot Smith

I dusted off my winter playlist today, since the weather has finally gotten cold here. Okay, so it's supposed to be 70 degrees today, but it was like 40 overnight...

First on the list is Elliot Smith. For some reason, I just can't listen to him when it's warm and sunny outside. I have Either/Or, XO, and From a Basement on the Hill.

Also some Ash. Haven't heard anything new from them lately, but in the late 90's, I was really into them. And it happened to be winter at the time, so there's the reason they are on this list. Albums: 1977 and Trailer.

Coolhand Band. They were originally from Madison, WI (or more specifically, Waukesha). They were houseguests a few times before they moved here to Austin. One of those times was in the winter, and I called in "sick" to work a couple of days to hang out with them. The day they were supposed to leave, I was sad, and trudged off to work. But we had our big "ice storm" that day, so the highways were shut down, and they had to stay one more day. Yay!

Radiohead. Just somehow fitting for winter.

Rufus Wainwright - Want One.

Sebadoh - harmacy. Brings back nice memories of a particular winter.

Tricky - Maxinquaye and Pre-Millenium Tension. Same winter. Hanging out at my regular bar, with the regular people. I think I may have even spent Christmas Eve at the bar that year.

The only song I'm missing is "Give a Little Bit". I have one version, but the one I really want (and can't find) is from the Gap xmas ads a few years ago, sung by Robbie Robertson.

What else sounds good in the wintertime?

I've been listening to Maxinquaye a lot recently, myself. It is, in fact, conducive to relaxing in cool weather.

I just listened to Pre-Millenium Tension, and remembered that this used to be one of my doin' it albums.
