WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

New Wave Wednesday! ...plus movie spoiler!

Posted about 1 year ago
This song was first discovered while I was watching one of my favorite movies of all time, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. The song starts playing at the end of the movie when Steve Martin's character suddenly realizes that John Candy's character doesn't have a home and is all alone. I remember winning a huge poster from my art class in 8th grade for a contest I entered. I hung it in my room and disposed of it in high school which I regret to this day.The Dream Academy quickly became one of my favorite new wave bands after that. They always had a very inviting sound and the vocals have always brought me back. What's up with all this nostalgia...geez.One of the funniest scenes in the movie!!! THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!!!

  1. contrabandwidth says I believe John hughes wrote the movie (or was it Harold Ramis?). If it was Hughes, you can count on him for exposing us to about 90% of the bands we fondly remember from the 80's. Great movie, one of my all time favorites as well.

  4. vannatta says Contra is right - Hughes wrote it... and also right about him exposing us to most of the bands from the 80's that we remember fondly... Lizzie... I know what you mean - on both counts...
