Mikel and I were in a band together some 12 years ago. We hit the Stanford University scene with this band at a tremendous force. I had gotten back into contact with Mikel after I heard from another ex-bandmate that his new band was blowing up. I thought to myself, THAT VOICE SOUNDED SO FAMILIAR!!! It was their mega hit "Sometime Around Midnight" that I had heard somewhere. At the time I totally shrugged it off, but it all started to make sense.
So they came into San Francisco in February and I was going to get tickets but the freaking show sold out in a few days. Plus it was Valentines and yeah, can't miss that one...the wife would do some killing. Well they were coming back for another show in April and I was smart about this one. It sold out too, but I called Mikel to get a ticket. Smart.
Before soundcheck we got a few minutes to talk and they have been touring non-stop for the past 9 months. I can't even imagine the travelling they've done. And they truly have been through just a ton of stuff, from laryngitis to sold out shows in the UK. It was great just to catch up again and I really enjoyed the energy from the show. This was the most packed I've ever seen Slim's and for good reason.

Wish I'd been there. Been digging on the album for weeks now.
Good band; great book to name oneself after. that first photo looks like a death march.
