Dogwood Mercy - Gotta Go

Posted over 4 years ago
This song is off of an EP from a band I was in called Dogwood Mercy. Our goal was never to make it big but to make real music and we had some local success but nothing more than that. The band split up due to "creative differences"...hahaha whatever that means. I feel that we never officially broke up but it ended that way. We said we wanted to take a break and regroup, but the regroup never happened. In a way I feel like we could have kept things going, but relationships were getting hard to deal with. There was a always a split among us with one side wanting to get a bit edgier with our sound. I am a huge supporter of dark and edgy sounding music, but I believe that this band sounded best when we were making folk music. I think we might have been forcing it a bit with the other sound. I still keep in touch with everyone from the band and some of us still play often. I can say that even though things didnt work out I am very glad that I had the opportunity to be a part of this band.

  4. waydutch says Nice, but agree wasn't expecting this..., from what I've gotten to know of you so far was expecting something more electric and garage rock band sounding.

  5. funkjester says well, that's an awfully nice cut...would love to hear some of the edgier stuff for comparison, but I'd have no problem with a band who consistently turns out stuff like that.

  6. poebegone says thanks for sharing, Pat. the song sounds inspired, makes me wonder why the breakup. the melodies remind me of early Smashing Pumpkins.

  7. walkingthecow says thanks for all the kind words everyone. i'll post up more songs. poebegone: sometimes the right thing to do is to appreciate what you accomplished and move on. i think that's what we all came to. it was tough being a part of a 6 member band (even though this song doesn't include all of us).
