Aaron Ross is one of the most amazingly gifted songwriters I've heard in a while...and by a while, I mean Ever! His first album, The Hallelujah Side is just the man and his guitar, kinda like early Bob Dylan. His second complete album, Shapeshifter has a whole medly of musicians from his hometown, including Dan Elkan (another incredible musician), Neal Morgan, Jonathan Hischke, David Torch, Cody Feiler and Luke Janela. (Eh, they're all badass.)The difference between the two albums is pretty crazy. The Hallelujah Side sounds like something that you'd hear around the fire pit at the train yard with a can of beans at your feet and a bottle of whiskey in your hand. While Shapeshifter is more of a crazy medly of so many sounds, everything from a cello to miracas to a vibraphone. Either way, the man's music is seriously incredible. If you get a chance to see him live, do it do it do it!!! He has just this great humble Woody Guthrie-ish-ness to him that I love. He also plays with Hella, the Sacramento-based insanity-rock band that went from the duo of Spencer Seim and Zack Hill, to another whole plethora of musicians. Another must as far as live concerts go.I'm rambling. Sorry.
