THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

Posted about 1 year ago
Hey againI just realized I may be getting an addictive feeling here similar to myspace. But I know that this is far from the truth now since I see that there are some very intelligent people on this site that I'm learning a lot from, opinions or not. At the same time, I'm can recommend concerts to people, which seems like it will be rewarding. On that note, here's my next concert experience. Taste of Chaos Tour I believe in 2005 at Arrow Hall. I went with 3 other friends but we missed a ride so we ended up getting there late, which I didn't mind as soon as I got in because I really only was going for My Chemical Romance who would probably be playing much later.Got there and Killswitch Engage was just ending. My Chemical Romance was setting up. I realized what was happening and went straight into the nearest mosh pitt with my friends. They had a grand-slam entrance, excellent guitar work but Gerard's voice, I eventually realized, was horrible. This was my first experience with a performance being ruined by a musician's inebriation. This continues to spark mixed feelings within me, usually negative though. It always depends on how much I paid for the event, how hard I stalk the band, how equally inebriated I am, etc.I was disappointed at first but I continued to sing(scream) along and a few elbows in the gut and hair pulls later I was content. It also helped me begin seeing past lyrics and the voice and to really appreciate the guitar. My friend broke his ankle soon afterwards so we never got to hear The Used, but got really close to the stage (the first aid was next to backstage) so I was drooling for a good 15 minutes. Today, I'm not very particular to the recent My Chemical Romance. I may be wrong but it seemed that they were really influenced by Green Day (thier themes) on the tour while promoting Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge(my favourite). They even went as far as to produce their next album with Green Day's producer Rob Cavallo. The album was titled The Black Parade. I never connected with a single song. It seems that people I've met had a choice earlier to be a fan of Green Day or of Blink 182. I chose the Blink 182 path so maybe that's why I'm disappointed in My Chemical Romance. Or maybe now I can't connect with thier recent songs because of the different themes. Or Gerard has been sober since 2006 (either more disciplined or less depressed). = Less passion in writing and recording? Either way, I haven't been excited about new My Chemical Romance in a long time but every now and then I'll put on Helena in the car and reminiscence.

  1. darmuzz says I like your post; interesting analysis of what has happened to MCR. I like all of their last 3 albums in different ways, but have never seen them live.

  2. laura27 says not a fan of MCR, but i can see the green day influence. i don't agree that people had a 'green day or blink' choice, i personally liked both. although i did prefer green day and was quite the obsessive fan. didn't like american idiot though, maybe they'd become too pop-y for my tastes or maybe i'd just grown out of them. perhaps it's the same for you and MCR.
