Ummm, could anyone point me in the direction of some good retro-futurism music? I was looking for some clothes on Amazon and saw some shirts that had retro-futurism stuff on it... And I was intersted in listening to it. I heard that it is kinda like wierd analog synth music or scifi surfer rock... Is this true?
Ok, so I have had band camp for the last couple of days, and will continue having it for the next two weeks. Here's the schedual: 8 am- 5 pm, break for dinner then come back and 6:30 - 9pm. Then I go home, take a shower and sleep. But I got on for a few moments to write this blog! OK, first off I did not get on just to complain about band camp. I actually like being out in the sun for.... oh, 6 and a half hours! we come in to practice the music for about 4 hrs... ANYWHO, as I was saying... Our theme this year is American Times. This is because we only play music from american composers! W00t. Last year our ballad was "My Old Kentucky Home".... which sucked... This year it is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber! This is such an awesome piece! It is so powerful and, well... musically challenging. ANYWHO.... I actually started this post to say I heard a really cool techno version of this song... And.... if any of you hear it, or find it... I would like the link! _ OK, off to sleep!

I have the techno version of Adagio for Strings. It's from the album Pieces In a Modern Style by William Orbit. The remix by Ferry Corsten was actually a single a few years ago. Check it out here.
I bet their are multiple versions, I know of a techno-y one by TIESTO, from the album "Parade of Athletes". I don't have a link, but I hope it's helpful all the same.
Thank ye so much! It was a great help! _ I love this song!
So, they are really what made the movie memorable for me. Of course, the movie was wonderful, but I don't know how well it would have affected me as a viewer without that song. The meloncohly sound really helped set the mood of the movie. Perfect fit I believe!

great scene with the bike and the view from the hill. the soundtrack for DD was wicked, it's kind of cheesy but i loved the sequence when they introduced the high school peeps with tears for fear, oh and the halloween party sex aftermath, walking down the stairs john hughes moment. actually this whole film was like some new school john hughes moment wasnt it?
It's a hard legacy to leave behind. Hughes had the magic touch when it came to making you feel like adolescence was some sort of spiritual journey instead of colossal waste of energy. Donnie Darko was very Hughes-ish with a contemporary twisted-ness and very good. That's where I first heard _Killing Moon_, too and I'm glad I did - a great song.

Your best bet for a first listen would be a band called Man or Astroman. Should be pretty easy to find their stuff. I hate the stuff though, just so you know. There's a guy on the local college station, www.cjsr.com who plays TONS of this kind of stuff on Monday nights, you should totally check it out on the webcast. He'll tell you what to do.
If you're looking for some excellent retro-flavoured electronic music, check out The Emperor Machine (Andy Meecham, half of Chicken Lips). His album, Aimee Tallulah is Hypnotised, is really good - a well-produced mixture of live and electronic elements with loads of cool synthwork - it's got a BIG analogue sound and lots of prog flavour. I think it would be an ideal soundtrack to some old sci-fi show or something. It's very distinctive sounding and hard to describe or categorise adequately, so check out some samples at www.juno.co.uk or something, but I highly recommend it. Disco Machine by Electronic System is also good. Originally released mid-70s it was reissued in 2004. It's the real deal - not some tongue-in-cheek retro futurism made last week. It was made by Dan Laksman (sp?) from Telex. VERY 70s scifi synth sound.
