MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(34)

For me, there are songs that I love instantly and there are songs that have to grow on me. Skip James' Devil Got My Woman was one of the ones I loved instantly (and yes I heard it for the first time while watching Ghost World). The vocals were just so haunting it made my heart literally ache.

I hate that a song is never the same as the first time you hear it. It never hurts quite like it does the first time. And now I sound like I'm talking about losing ones virginity, but regardless, this will be one of hopefully a few posts similar to this. There a many more songs that I heard for the first time and died a litte.

So tell me, what are your songs that make your heart hurt?

Second Skip James post in one day - must mean I have to go explore his music. For me its a song I posted earlier today that did that to me on first listen (I Alone by Live).

When I saw that your Album listing was Vanguard Sessions: Blues From..., my heart sank.  His Vanguard recordings are among the best Folk recordings of the 1960s, but his 1930 Paramont sides are...unassailable, primo, up there in God's archive with Bach & Beethoven in my opinion, so boy was I happy to find out that you had uploaded the early version!!!
