An Ear Worm is that song that you can't get out of your head, so much so, that its kind of annoying, no matter how much you like the song, its plays over and over again in your mind's ear, long after you stopped looping it over again in your favorite media player.
This version of the Talking Heads song Artists Only, from SNL, is IMHO, the best version of this song - and has caused it (on only a couple of listens) to be one of the most prolific Ear Worms of all time for me. I'm waking up hearing it in the morning, most certainly listening to it even in my sleep, and coming back to it in my mind again and again during the day.
Must have something to do with the pure manic angst, but with that usual sense of fun, that Byrne delivers the vocal with...
I'm painting, I'm painting again. I'm painting, I'm painting again. I'm cleaning, I'm cleaning again. I'm cleaning, I'm cleaning my brain. Pretty soon now, I will be bitter. Pretty soon now, will be a quitter. Pretty soon now, I will be bitter. You can't see it 'til it's finished I don't have to prove...that I am creative! I don't have to prove...that I am creative! All my pictures are confused And now I'm going to take me to you.
So tell me fellow Moggers, what's your current Ear Worm, and even more entertaining, what was your worst Ear Worm of All Time?

Gimme a second...I get back to you on this.

For some reason, I had Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" stuck in my brain for years. That and AC/DC's "Whole Lotta Rosie." No idea why in either case.

This is an ever changing thing for me. Recently it's been "Silver Lining" by Rilo Kiley "Hooray, Hooray...I'm your silver lining...Hooray, Hooray..."
And my boss seems to have one stuck in his head...he comes through whistling "We're off to see the wizard" all the time, and drives me a bit crazy (in an annoying way not a funny way) but I can laugh about it here at least.

Brendanhalpin - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC was an Ear Worm for me for a while.
Waydutch, Dry County was one for me long ago as well.
SunshineDream, I think that its very telling that your boss is whistling that as he goes through the office, he either secretly thinks that he is the impotent man behind the curtain, fearfully trying to run things through a complete facade and doesn't realize he's whistling, _or he feels the pressure from _his boss ... and/or thinks of him that way... either way, he sounds like he has little control over his own life - think of him as the former the next time he does it, and let me know if you could sit there without laughing out loud this time. Cheers!
Annieander, Annie? Annie...?
My Trusted MOGs
Wow...Dr. Vannatta!
You called it with "he secretly thinks that he is the impotent man behind the curtain, fearfully trying to run things through a complete facade" He is a nice man (after all he employees me) but there are issues and little control over his own life.
Good Call...hehehe !!!

...glad I could help... ;)

I really had to think about this...I don't have one earworm persay (does anyone recognize the term Ceti Eel). I am a consumer of music and I will listen to one album, and only one album until I get sick of it. During that time a song from that album will become my earworm.
Some earworms of late have been: You Can Have It All - Kaiser Chiefs Silverlining - Rilo Kiley Your Heart is an Empty Room - Death Cab The Bagman's Gambit - The Decemberists Adrenalin - Emma Pollok Mushaboom - Feist (Postal Service Remix) Challengers - The New Pornographers
All of which are songs that I can be found whistling. Yes, I whistle and I am quite good at it. I have heard the statistic that only 1 in 7 women can whistle well. My husband and son both say "What are you whistling now?". I blame my Dad for that.
And you thought I wouldn't return to post this....didn't you?

Thanks.
I'm sure you knew what I was saying, but I just noticed in my comment I said "he is the impotent man" I have no idea what his impotency is like. Nor would I ever want to know. My how 1 little letter can change a whole sentence.
haha

Annie: Oh me of little faith... thanks so much for putting the time in on this one - and yes, I did know the Ceti Eel I am a serious Trek geek (original series) and ... can also relate that an ear worm can sometimes be damaging and painful to the psyche...
SunshineDaydream, I did know what I was saying (and so did you) in the sense that he is impotent from the Latin - lacking any real power... the usual physical manifestation of that - I don't think either of us meant that, but if you imagine it anyway, you'll still laugh even harder (no pun intended) every time he whistles - whether its from the Wizard of Oz or not... LOL!!!

I got "LAST TRAIN" by Death Of Me. . . I don't think I can even remember the last time I had a favorite song like this!!!

When I get an earworm I don't like, I dispel it with Zappa's "Honey Don't Ya Want A Man Like Me?" and when I get that stuck in my head, I remove it by thinking of the guitar intro to Jimi Hendrix's version of "Hey Joe".

One of the all time most infectious Ear Worms has to be "Toms Diner" by Susan Vega.
I was tourtured by nights of lost sleep by G n' R's "Mr. Brownstone" and Metallica's "Dyer's Eve" lyrics. I seriously lost sleep over them and couldn't get them outta my head when I was in 7th grade.

blister in the sun, by the violent femmes, has been the absolute worst stuck-in-my-head song for my entire life.
it was released when i was...(quick wiki...) yeah, 2, maybe 3, and has been stuck in my head ever since.
Oh, and Brian Ritchie (bassist) is suing Gordon Gano (guitarist/ vocalist) over his authorization of the song in the Wendy's commercial. I don't know if I've ever felt so ambivalent about something in my entire life, in the strict sense of the word. On the one hand, it sucks to have one band member suing another in one of my favorite bands of all time. On the other, licensing to Wendy's was a phenomenally monumental pile of suck. To me. Yes, I know that the raping and pillaging of my culture is fairly petty and small next to, say, actual raping and pillaging. It still hurts, dammit.

Thanks everyone for the great comments.
morst: I do the same thing - clear it out with something fairly complex...
iq: I have the same one with Blister - but the version is actually a friend's band in Boston that covered it _really well, but unfortunately, never recorded it. Having heard it a few times in their short stint together though, I've never forgotten it.

It's a little down-the-road to be commenting on this post, but I'm with Annie. They change and change. A few days ago? "Civil Twilght" by the Weakerthans. Right after that? The Kinks' "This Time Tomorrow." And so on...
My Trusted MOGs
I'm with you guys - its always something different creeping in... was really wondering if there was one that just stood out - the mother of all Earworms - had you obsessed for say more than a year (although this is all relative too) ...
My Trusted MOGs
