Get Happy!

I was thinking today about the genre of songs that just make me happy to listen to them. There is something about the lyrics or music or both which cheers me right up and makes me smile. Here are a few of my examples. What are yours?

From the 60's
Green Onions – Booker T and the MG's
Okay, it isn't the lyrics that makes this one happy for me. It just sounds so damn cheerful! Who cares about onion breath. Eat up!

From the 80's
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
Don't it feel good! This is a meta happy song. A happy song about being happy.

From the early 90's
Sit Down - James
For some reason I always think of this song as Stand Up. I really get shivers listening to this song again today. It is so optimistic about our ability to reach other to others and make them and ourselves feel better. Kind of like that Hug video that is making the rounds on the interwebs. Free Hugs!

From the late 90's
Kid Loco - Relaxin' With Cherry
Another instrumental that just gets good chemicals flowing through my body. I'm not sure why.

Loving the Cut Chemist!

I am so loving this cd. I got it because the song the Garden does this wonderful re-purposing of Astrud Gilberto singing the Berimbau song. However, now that I have heard it a few times, all the songs are that great. I can't get ENOUGH of the second song, Big Break. It is super catchy and has fun lyrics like 'The Robots Are Coming' and some alluring rings of a what sounds like a bellhop bell. Throw in some surf-y guitar sounds and it is impossible to sit still!
