for thanksgiving drives back home, i always want to make sure i have a solid collection of tunes to ward off the traffic boredom. only this time around, my brother played DJ with a playlist that pleasantly swept me down memory lane. see, my problem is that i kill songs. and it's not just kill, but murder. the homicide rate of songs slaughtered by the gentle press of my finger is astronomical. and like a disrespectful child, i often forget to pay a visit to the graveyard of songs i once obsessively loved. now, i don't always agree with my brother's taste in music. he's starting to get complacent by occasionally permitting radio waves to funnel easy listening snooze into the car. but this time around, he reminded me of years long ago. circa 1989. 1996. 2001. the clash, blur, mango pirates. bands and songs i hadn't heard since their brutal murder. and though we were in traffic, traveling at a snail pace, it was nice to be stuck with something i once loved. good music will never die, i guess. regardless of how many times i hit repeat.

  1. Spencer Owen says I know a guy who kills not just songs, but five-second stretches in songs. It's madness. He's a psychopath. He should be stopped. And nope, it never quite dies... and I don't know if "Havalina" is one of those songs for you, but it's a lovely one, for me.
