My god. I own this album, but haven't heard it in, what, 30 years? But I remember that riff as the one great thing on the album. How wonderful to hear it here.
Nice post - a favorite album of mine for sure. Can I ask why we don't see Eric Clapton credited in the liner notes under the musicians? He's mentioned in the literature: "Back at EMI in Abbey Road, George recorded the British contingent, including Eric Clapton, Tony Ashton and others in the Remo Four, plus Ringo Starr, John Barham and Tommy Reilly." However, clearly listed in the front are "the musicians" - with no other guitarist mentioned other than Colin Manley. What's this all about then?
England (December 1967)
John Barham – piano and flügelhorn
Colin Manley – guitar and steel guitar
Tony Ashton – jangle piano and organ
Philip Rogers – bass
Roy Dyke – drums
Tommy Reilly – harmonica
Peter Tork – banjo (uncredited)
Eddie Clayton (Eric Clapton) – guitar
Richie Snare (Ringo Starr) – drums (rumoured)
India (January 1968)
Aashish Khan – sarod
Mahapurush Misra – tabla and pakavaj
Sharad Jadev – shehnai
Hanuman Jadev – shehnai
Shambu-Das – sitar
Indril Bhattacharya – sitar
Shankar Ghosh – sitar
Chandra Shekhar – surbahar
Shiv Kumar Sharma – santoor
S. R. Kenkare – flute
Vinaik Vora – thar-shehnai
Rij Ram Desad – harmonium and tabla-tarang
