BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(7)

The Swedish Psych scene is criminally underrated. Then again a lot of this stuff hasn't been reissued on CD, due to the original labels being small and poor, but also due to the reason that the reissue industry has overlooked the SWE Psych scene in favor for the US, Uk and German scenes.

quote- HEAVYPSYCHMAN, who compiled non-comped singles and lp trax direct from vinyl rarely circulated outside of Scandinavia - tho sung in English - for an online collection, SWE Psych 1967-1973.

Definitely more fleshed-out and experimental than the average Euro freak-beat we've heard before on Diggin' For Gold and later Pebbles volumes, tho he did include the Lea Riders Group's classic "Dom Kellar Oss Mods", already on several lp and cd reissues of Pebbles Vol. 3 Acid Gallery.

Wasn't Uncle Creepy the "host" of the Warren B&W Horror comic magazine "Creepy"? The latest avatar above appears to be one of the EC horror hosts (The Crypt Keeper, the Old Witch?). The exact names of the other one escapes me at the moment, which is a shame as I have bound copies of all those ECs upstairs.

Don't mean to ignore the music. It;s just that I've been using a bunch of avatars from old comics lately.

The music reminds me Hendrix vocally. Interesting. Period piece for sure.

now wait a minnit! You have bound EC comics? Are they the actual comics... or reprints? Either way, very cool!

Yeah, I saw your comic book avatars, that's what inspired me to swipe your idea and make similar icons!

The current one is the Vault-Keeper, taken from a photo of a bookend bust we made but sad to say were unable to interest the post-Bill Gaines people to go for.

Russ Cochran was encouraging the project, but then the rights changed hands.

So only a few were ever made. A picture of the set is in the EC Mad Collectibles book by Grant Geissman.

Just a little background on this avatar, I couldn't resist telling it!

Uncle Creepy indeed was the host of the long running Warren publication Creepy magazine (and then Eerie followed by Vampirella) that sidestepped the verdammpt Comics Code Authority in 1964.

Now, getting back to those bound EC volumes...

The same Russ Cochran produced bound sets of reprints of all of the ECs, larger than comic book size, with the covers in color and the stories in black and white, shot from the original art. All were in slipcases and were supplemented by commentary within the books. I have all of those. He then reprinted color comics of almost all of the ECs. I actually kind of prefer the color reprints, as they are as close as you can come to the originals without spending a fortune. I think Russ sold his company (whose name escapes me at the moment), but with a little internet research I'm sure you can find some of the reprints.

I wasn't sure anyone out there knew what my avatars were. Nice to know at least one person did.
