Ok, so the other day I was watching the InHD channel on my tv and the Isle of Wight festival from 2005 came on so I figured I'd watch it. I saw sooo many good bands. How some of these bands haven't made names for themselves, I have no clue. I was looking them up online even and I can barely find anything about them. So, I thought, there's bound to be somebody on mog who knows something about them and what they're doing now or what's been happening with them. A few of the bands are Proud Mary, The Stands, 22-20s, and Super Furry Animals. Anyone know anything about them?
One question how do The Velvet Underground not go down as one of the best bands ever when most people talk about best bands of all time. They should be mentioned in the same breath as Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones and all the bands people typically mention in conversations about best bands ever.. some of their songs are sort of weird but they still have an incredible amount of great songs considering how long they were together for.

Pretty certain you're preaching to the choir here; most ppl on this site dig VU was well.
As good as some of Pink Floyds later albums were (Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall), I've got to say my favorite Pink Floyd was the earlier Syd Barrett stuff. I mean imagine how amazing they could have been if he had stayed sane and able to be in a band. I was just doing some reading in the rolling stone saying how good his solo albums were too. I haven't gotten to listen to them yet but he is a genius (creatively anyway) and as much as Pink Floyd is known for there later albums I think they would definitly be so much better if they didnt get Waters and had somehow managed to keep Syd Barrett. RIP Syd.

You may enjoy Camper Van Beethoven's self-titled album from 1986, Camper Van Beethoven with an excellent cover of "Interstellar Overdrive."
In my mind, Pink Floyd only put out one good album (Piper, of course). Syd was THAT essential to the band. Definitely pick up one of his solo albums when you can.
If you're into early Pink Floyd, be sure to check out Soft Machine - they're from the same London underground psychedelic backgrounds as PF. A lot of their early stuff is very much like Piper, only better!
when i first listened to his solo work it was the obvious a mad genius making music though i was not totally into that i still hold that darkside is prolly the greatest album OF ALL TIME yes i read that article...syd had also over-hyped especially here at his passing his greatnest is intact

All I know about Super Furry Animals is that they're making the Ultimate MOG Mix.
Isn't it annoying when there are quality bands out there that just don't make it big? I always check out Wiki for info. Not always entirely accurate, but it's nice for an initial quick and dirty assessment.
The Super Furries are awesome. They are from Wales, and sometimes sing in Welsh. I recommend the albums Phantom Power and Love Kraft, but I pretty much dig anything they do. I'm sure you can find them on ITunes, or here: www.superfurry.com
