MOG MOG

WHERE E=MC HAMMER

You know what I'm talking about: someone, somewhere in the M-O-S mentions a band, and while you don't immediately go searching for their tunes, the name sticks in the back of your mind. Then, weeks/months later you come across the band's music and kick yourself for having waited so long. This happened to me last night with Margot & The Nuclear So and So's.

Listen:

Quiet As A Mouse - mp3

Skeleton Key - mp3

I believe it was Oprah Winfrey, who's mention of the band logged in my mental ledger some time ago. So thank you, Oprah - I may just join your book club now.

It's nice to see a hometown band get some national attention. They have an all-ages show coming up soon here. I believe it's sold out. And no matter how thankful you are, resist the Oprah book club. :)

Glad you liked it natR. My favorite track from the album is "A Sea Chanty of Sorts", but I couldn't find an mp3 link to it - you'd enjoy it if you liked "Skeleton Key".

I got Skeleton Key from a Paste Sampler this summer and loved it, but haven't checked out the rest of the album. I think I will now. Thanks!

Sweet - I just got a subscription to Paste a few days ago, and I'm excited about getting the CD samplers.

That happens to me all the time. Oh man, I need to check out such and such a band, and I forget. And then somebody posts it and I'm like, holy shit, these guys rock, why didn't I check them out earlier!

Or or or when I'm in a record store and I'm like "I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass, hey, I know I read about that on MOG, but I didn't listen to it yet. I should wait and listen first before spending the dough on this record." And then listening to it and being like, damn! Why didn't I just buy the damn vinyl?

Speaking of YLT, I still have that album sitting in my iTunes, staring me in the face, but I can never get past "Beanbag Chair". Is there a specific song I should listen to AJ?

I dunno, that first track (Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind) is just so epic... I love it!

That is a great song! When I first played "Pass the Hatchet", I thought "this album's gonna rock". And then "Beanbag Chair" came on. Total buzz-kill.
