I remember getting my first apartment all to myself back in '99. This meant, of course, doing whatever I wanted whenever I wanted to cuz there were no parentals around, and this was exciting. Every night was a party. Nightly events included playing Kings and drinking Keystone Ice right out of the can + jamming until midnight or later. This would eventually get me evicted, but man, those were the days.
One of these nights in particular I decided to whip out my VHS copy of 7 Television Commercials by Radiohead. I remember jaws dropping and hearing a few "wtf?'s" when the video for "Paranoid Android" came on...
My friend David, a stranger to the band's music and bizarre videos, suddenly turned blue and ran out to the front steps. He was bent over, clutching his stomach with a ghost-like look on his face. At first we thought he was just wasted, but then he said "turn it off...turn off the music...I can't take it". The video actually made him ill, and to this day I still get a chuckle when I watch it (and it's a totally awesome song, too).
Does anyone have a clue what the video is about? The guy washing his eyes out with shampoo? The guy dancing on the table at the bar with another head poking out of his stomach? The mermaids wrapping up the de-limbed politician and putting him in a tree? I have no idea.
David eventually came to love the band, but his reaction was priceless. Ahhh, I miss those days...

This is the first Radiohead video I've ever watched. I love Radiohead - and oh my god this was awesome - I can see how it would curdle a few bellies, but, just cool the looks on their faces when the stripper asked for money, they were like, "what the hell?". Good stuff.

I think I skipped school the day radiohead was crowned king everything...I have just never gotten them...and that has always bothered me!

It shouldn't bother you at all, SatisfiedM, we all like what we like. I personally don't care for the new TV on the Radio, but everyone's going crazy over it, and I just don't get it. But Radiohead, to me, make such powerful music that I can't help but get swept away in it. It speaks to me, but I can understand why it's not your thing. Cheers to diversity!

Yeah, it actually took me a while to 'get' Radiohead, but I am happy to have stuck with it.

Holy San Juan Capistrano! That was the shizfish! I will probably watch it again a few times so I can get back to you with my warped interpretation thereof. None to speak of at the moment, but who cares? Its awesome. Also, possibly the best song recorded in the 90's. Thanks fo Sharon!
