WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

You really should just let him take over already...

I know, I know. We're sick of hearing about Sufjan's Christmas box-set. I've avoided it myself. I'd been doing a good enough job stuffing as much of his music down my throat as it was, and the box-set looked like a huge dessert after a huge meal. I was full of Sufjan. Then earlier this evening, I stumbled upon an MP3 of "Star of Wonder" from, I think, the fifth disc in this collection over at "iguessimfloating":http://iguessimfloating.blogspot.com/, and I speak the truth when I say it's amazing. A bit lengthy, a bit indulgent, but altogether haunting and gorgeous. Go on - try to hate it.MP3: "Star of Wonder":http://locker.uky.edu/~ntgrav2/09%20Star%20Of%20Wonder.mp3Jump to the 3:00 mark if you've got an itchy trigger-finger.

  1. nightowl13 says I like this song but I do have an itchy trigger finger with a lot of his songs. Sometimes I don't get the cacophony. "Sister Winter" is the best though.

  7. tybees says no13: "Sister Winter" is pretty good too and seems to be the favorite, but this track hit me over the head and dragged me away. PIMP: Just do it! C'mon! mkt: :) :) Blair: It barely resembles Christmas music. It could almost belong on ??Michigan??. Anna: Ummm, wow. We'll let that one slide since you promised not to do it again :) Dale: She's ??your?? sister!!

  8. lemontwist says I have not listened to any Sufjan yet, aside from one or two songs that have made it onto mixes that I've received. But I did show "Santa" (read: my mom) a copy of Illinoise on vinyl, so I'll have to pretend like I'm surprised when I open it next week... I'm hoping the tunes are as good as MOGgers are saying they are. :)

  12. moose says Get sucked into Sufjan's Christmas wonderland!! do it do it do it Christmas music can become overbearing but somehow this isn't. Plus I love how he includes songs such as Come Thou Fount and Holy Holy Holy among classic religious and secular seasonal tunes. And such gorgeous renditions. It's a cheesey analogy, but the entire set is like a gentle, peaceful snowfall. It quiets everything. It could be the event Christmas celebrates that has this affect. Actually, SS does better than most in capturing the beauty of the reason for the season in all of its wonder and majesty. Merry Christmas Moggers

  13. curbyourentropy says Star of Wonder is great... I agree with nightowl, though... I like Sister Winter the most. I just wish Sufjan had included Majesty, Snowbird on the music release! I absolutely love that song.
