Album of the Year - Grizzly Bear's Yellow House

Posted about 1 year ago
Now you have no excuse not to listen to Grizzly Bear's brilliant ??Yellow House??. I've posted the entire record on my multply page, so if you've had any inkling at all to check it out, I present it to your open ears. This album may not be for everyone (and I celebrate our diversity), but it's spoken to me so deeply since I came across it that I feel the need to share.Grizzly Bear create intense neo-psych-folk-pop that deserves at least one shot, and will reward the listener after multiple spins. The most accessible track is "Knife", and it just may become embedded in your brain. My favorite tracks are "Plans", "Central and Remote", and "Lullabye". Enjoy, and feel free to tell me whether you love it or hate it. Here it is:"Grizzly Bear - ??Yellow House??":http://tybees.multiply.com/music/item/59

  4. Laxman29 says I've been avoiding Grizzley Bear...I saw a few good reviews online and found a free track online. I liked the track but didn't love it so, just have been putting off getting the whole album. Thanks for posting the review, I'll check it out next chance I get.

  5. tybees says ??Yellow House?? will not do the same for most as it's done for me, and I can understand that. I thought it would've gotten huge by now, but alas it seems doomed to obscurity. I tried, GrizzB...I tried.

  8. tybees says You should def check 'em out, Wade, they have a very original, distinct sound jonny I'm glad you like them too. Their tour with TV on the Radio didn't come close to me, so I never got a chance to see them. I hope they'll be around long enough for the both of us to see them live - I've read that they put on a fantastic show!

  9. SamTheButcher says A friend recommended them highly. I've not given it the attention, but I've got the album now. I'll give it another go, seeing as another bloke I know is giving it the OK.

  10. tybees says I really feel that it's the underrated album of the year, Sam. I was probably being a bit pretentious when I came up with the title of this post, but I hope you give it a try anyway. Are you on multiply? Seeing as how I can't seem to find most of the records you've recommended, it'd be awesome if you posted some Drive by Jehu of No Knife on multiply for the rest of us to hear!

  14. sugarbaby says I saw them open for TV On the Radio a couple of weeks ago. They reminded me a bit of early experimental Pink Floyd. Interesting music..

  15. democlez says I took all the songs to work with me, and I have to admit that I couldn't get into it when I listen to the entire album from beginning to end. Then, I switch to shuffle, and the songs really fell into a perfect place for me. They are so spacey, and hypnotic, they work as perfect songs to follow a harder songs. They kind of clear the pallet. Hearing Colorado after Victory (NIN remix) by Puff Daddy? Perfection. Lullaby was my favorite track by itself. Thanks Ty!

  17. Jorobot says I had to force myself to listen to this one a few times...I DL'd it, it sounded like some of my favorite bands (Animal Collective foremostly), but nothing stuck out enough for me to want to replay it. I gave it a few more tries, though, and it's growing on me. The sound of the band is great; I hope next time around, the songs will flesh out a little more.

  18. supertopsecret says Yellow House is a pretty great album. I think you have to be in the right mood (high) to listen to the whole album through. None the less, it is still a great album. I heard the Animal Collective in them as well, but I believe Grizzly Bear destroys Animal Collective with its rocking glory. I have seen Animal Collective three times, each show was worse than the previous. I used to love them, but if they can't even play something half way decent live then they are nothing but a studio group...and that sucks.
