New Beirut single

Posted over 5 years ago
"Lirpa":http://mog.com/Lirpa posted earlier today about seeing Beirut live, and I must confess my jealousy. ??The Gulag Orkestar?? is one of the best albums released this year, and I'm kicking myself for not making the trip to Seattle to see the performance by Zach Condon (who is basically Beirut with a kickin' back-up band). My only comfort comes from a performance that "Viva La Britt":http://mog.com/Viva_La_Britt shared with me (love ya!), a live show exclusive to Spin magazine that you can watch "here":http://www.spin.com/features/spinhouse_live/2006/10/061005_beirut/. I highly recommend it if you are a Beirut fan.So, a treat that I came across today was a new Beirut song, entitled "Elephant Gun":http://bopperenlarme.free.fr/sucreries/Beirut-Elephant_Gun.mp3 from the ??Lon Gisland?? EP. The EP is being included in the UK release of ??The Gulag Orkestar?? and contains 4 new Beirut tracks (lucky f***ing Brits). "Elephant Gun" is exactly what you want to hear from Mr. Condon, and "Pitchfork gave it 4 stars":http://pitchforkmedia.com/page/track_reviews/Beirut_Elephant_Gun. Thanks to "some French blog":http://20six.fr/bopperenlarme/art/1346233 for providing the track. Enjoy!

  1. Manos says “Elephant Gun is exactly what you want to hear from Mr. Condon" I couldn't agree more. Lovely.

  2. tybees says I'm glad you agree, Manos. Pitchfork said that "there aren't many clues to (Condon's) growth on the EP", but I think the sound he created on ??Gulag?? should be further mined. It ain't broke, y'know?

  3. Manos says I don't believe in Pitchfork's definition of "growth".

  4. Kirk says I've heard so much about Beirut lately. Okay, that's it. I'm going to the nearby CD store to check them out. There's gotta be something to them.

  5. tybees says You should definitey check it out, Kirk. You can probably find the track "Postcards From Italy" somewhere on the 'net. "(hint, hint)":http://tybees.multiply.com/music/item/16

  6. Viva La Britt says _reciprocates Ty's love fivefold_ I, too, am sick of the Brits getting all the dope bonus tracks. And this Condon kid is just too freaking talented for his own good.

  7. tybees says There you are, Britt :) I hope we get lots more music for years to come out of Condon. He better not die tragically or something (no jinx intended).

  8. Viva La Britt says Right. We don't need him to go the Jeff Buckley route. Ooh, speaking of, if you haven't located _Sin-e_ we should remedy that _to-day_.

  9. tybees says DOH! I haven't gotten around to Sin-e yet (bad ty). I have a rather large download going right now, but lemme see what I can do.

  12. tybees says bethers, I agree. I contend that "Postcards From Italy" is the best song released this year.
