WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I'm digging new wave?

Posted about 1 year ago
Not sure that's an appropriate description of Cut Copy, but man I'm digging this record in a hardcore kind of way. It's immediately gratifying, and only gets better after multiple spins. Typically, for me anyway, anything overtly "retro"-sounding is a turn off, but there's something special about In Ghost Colours. It's like waking up in the morning and instantly being in a good mood (y'know - sun shining, birds singing, other corny things). This is the first track from the record and it never lets up from here.

  7. democlez says Happy shinny people holding hands! Sounds like the kind of music that sneaks into your brain, makes a home in your limbic system and pokes at your nucleus accumbens. (thank you Wikipedia)

  9. Hermes says I neither heart of those guys, but I don't think that they were using vocoders back in New Wave back then, or did they? Or does New Wave still exist? I was already getting in hot water recently when presuming tacitly that Kraftwerk would not exist any more ;). It sounds to me a bit like a softer version of Daft Punk. Just came to your MOG page on mysterious ways and realized, that I have here a true MOG veteran in front. Buenos días señor, nice to meet you :).

  10. tybees says Well, I'm certainly not well-versed in New Wave, but it's what came to mind when hearing the record. Everything comes back around eventually, right? :) I read one person describe the band as The Cure meets Daft Punk, and that about nailed it. Now, I loves me some Daft-tunes, but they can be hit and miss. Cut Copy make great song after great song - the record is full of them, really. MOG lost some of it's magic for me over the last year when I realized I just didn't have much to say anymore, and I feel kinda "out of the loop", but I forgot that little feeling of joy when I get the "Someone has posted a comment on your MOG" email! Nice to meet you as well, Hermes :)
