I've come to accept the fact that I just can't keep up anymore. I was a faux-hipster from the beginning (how ironic?), but finding sweet little "unknown" gems like this has always been one of the best parts about digging beneath the surface (or at least knowing the ones who do, thx B).
Pronounced "dough", The Do are a finnish/french due who genre-hop like rabbits and end up with interesting results. When it's good, it's really really good. When it's not so good, it's still impressive how they manage to score points for originality.
Obsessing me are tracks 2, 3, and 4 from the record. "At Last" is a silky slow-motion telling of love finally found with a daydream beat and clever lyrics ("been groping my way along the darkest of dungeons/until I found out there were switches all around). "On My Shoulders", arguably the best, is a stark contrast to "At Last", with vocalist Olivia Merilahtin lementing her obsession with a lover who won't appreciate her over a guitar riff that manages to be both melancholy and funky. Melafunk. Yeahhhh. Finally there's the romeo/juliet-ish "Song For Lovers", a gorgeously sad ballad that highlights the band's expertise in genre-mastering. And it hardly comes off as forced, each new track naturally embraces it's own sound.
So get yourself some Do.

Trippy/clever/catchy, then gentle/ethereal - and very (charmingly) idiosyncratic!
If I haven't heard it yet, it's new to me! It's great being able to introduce people to "unknown gems", but it can be a real let-down when the conversation goes:
"Have you heard anything by (insert band name here)?"
"Oh, yeah. They're ok."
Great pick Ty. I definitely have to go out and get me some Do.
i am only on the first song that you posted and loving this! thanks to your keen "faux-hipster" ear :)
I heard these guys on NPR or a podcast somewhere....and made a mental note to look them up. And, then I forgot! Gee with a simple name like that, you'd think I'd remember. Oh boy.
hey, Thanks TY!
