I was shopping at one of my favorite online shops and found a copy of Funky Skull and knew it probably was a repress but got it anyway. I knew the lp went for more than what I was willing to pay and if it was a repress, it was still a good deal, sadly, it was a repress. It's on Limelight, a subsidiary of Mercury records, but seems to be obsure as anything. It's one of those lp's you will find for a buck, or 80 dollars. When you see the cover, you pretty much know that you should buy it. He was the bassist for Eddie Harris, and it is easy to realize that once you start listening to it. He uses the same effects(Echo-Plex, etc) as Eddie but seems a bit rawer, and on an upright bass, if you can imagine. The genre of tunes are really all over the map. It's spacy at times, distorted, but seems to capture that raw grit that Harris was known for at times (Plug me in, Excursions, etc). Lester Bowie and Phil Upchurch both appear on tracks, seems like the other names ring bells, probably from Cadet credits. It's a solid lp, you will either think, gotta find this right away or you don't care. I couldn't turn it down.

i am really fond of the echo-plex. i also like spacey. i saw Sonic Boom live last night (of Spectrum and Spacemen3).... i will be publishing a review of the show soon on my mog. if you are not already familiar with his music, you should check it out, i think you would like it.
Love it man. His version of "Silver Cycles" is superior to Eddie's. But the real treasure is "Bold & Black", which sounds like The JB's died, went to hell, and came back as zombies to record a 45.
