work to do

what paisley underground/'80s indie-rock band does this sound EXACTLY like? i can't quite place it. long ryders? lone justice (that's what my friend nature boy says)? maybe even john mellencamp? steve earle? (nah, that's too obvious, and he was never this catchy).also, when did the replacements become a bigger influence in nashville than they are on either coast? this latter is not specifically an allison moorer question, but this song is making me ponder this at this exact moment.

  1. eshep says yeah, when i heard that song it immediately rang a bell in the cobwebbed 80s corner of my brain. i can't quite place it either, although it's veering away from country-influenced bands like lone justice and almost into scandal ('goodbye to you') territory. i think some of this record almost sounds like 'whip-smart'-era liz phair. i'm still not quite sure what i think of this record. it's a strange one. it's this close away from being really cheezy, yet it's pretty infectious in parts.

  2. sentinel329 says I've only checked out samples of some of the songs on this album, but from what I have heard I'm pretty disappointed. What happened? You would think that after 'Miss Fortune' she would know better than to subjugate her artistic authority to try and achieve a more 'mainstream' sound. Maybe her recent marriage has completely changed her musical direction, and if so then that's perfectly acceptable. If that's the case, though, I think I'll stick to her older stuff.
