BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

I didn't realize how much of a necessity electricity was until I woke up this morning burning hot. When I got out of bed and called the electric company to figure out what the eff, my representative had clearly not made it past the 8th grade. (A sentence contains both a subject AND a verb, right? She must have been out sick that day from school..) Anyway, she wound up telling me that I wouldn't have power again until 2pm. Current time (at the time): 9:30am.
First, I got really pissed off and promptly looked out the window to see if I could locate anyone else who was as equally pissed off as I was. No dice. Then, I stressed out a little over all of the crap in my refrigerator and freezer. I mean seriously, how are my Beer and Ben and Jerry's supposed to stay cold? (Next thought: Should I be worried that I'm worrying about Beer at 9:30 in the morning)?
Once I realized the battery on my computer was kaput, I knew I was screwed, and being iPod-less (sad, I know) I knew it was only going to get worse. So, instead of moping around in my pajamas, I got dressed in the dark (it’s rainy) and went out – and found the most awesome thing in the process.
My parents recently gave me all of their old vinyl. I'm not talking about miscellaneous 45's and random records. Live Floyd from 69', Rubber Soul, Stand!, December's Children, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Disraeli Gears...but also some really amazing Motown.
I found a turntable that I can plug into my computer that lets me rip the vinyl onto CD's or turn them into MP3's. I'm so stoaked it's ridiculous. Only, it wasn't in stock and I had to order it. Of course.
What excites me the most is that I get to hear these bands and songs I love so much in their original form. No digital remastering - no bullshit. It's liberating. My only plan is to get lost in the music…
After hugging “Kit”, the guy who sold it to me, it was time to get home to check on the beer – I mean the electricity. When I walked into my apartment, the electricity was back on and all was right with the world - as far as A/C is concerned. I just felt the need to tell someone about my new music toy. And since I had forgotten all about this site until a few days ago (shame on me) this is my first post. Hope someone understands...

Ah, the joys of the parent's record collection. I hope that motown collection includes the Big Chill soundtrack.

I have "borrowed" my dad's record collection as well. My favorite has got to be the White album that still has all the 8x10s of the band inside.

Sounds like you have your priorities straight to me. Beer & vinyl.

Not necessarily in that order. :)
