The second Grace Potter and the Nocturnals vid is out. Favorite part this time around? The clip of "Take Me to the River." Damn, Grace. This band is so awesome.

I've been listening to a lot of Radiohead over the last few weeks, what with In Rainbows being amazing and reminding me how much I love the band.
I've also been listening to a reasonable amount of Sia, because school is stressing me out and she's really relaxing to listen to.
What do these 2 have in common? Sia's cover of "Paranoid Android" from the Radiohead tribute Exit Music. I don't think this version could be any more different from the original. Somehow, someway, it's about a thousand times more sinister. Basically just Sia's voice, some strings, and a piano, this song is a FORCE. It really makes you consider the lyrics now that it's without the instrumentation of the original. Totally, totally dig it.

Trench.... I'm sure you know this already... but try mixing (virtually) track for track InRainbows with OK Computer..... amazing. Also... I'm a huge fan of Sia Furler...and he5r version of paranoid android is one of my favourite tracks (after 7 tracks on 'colour the small one' and 5 on 'Only See'). Before I left Oz I downloaded a free album that was a tribute to 10 years of OK compuetr... you should listen to it if you haven't yet....and also..without a doubt you should check out Radiodread..... beautiful in it's own right.
but Sia... ohmygod.
Sleater-Kinney is my favorite band. No way around it. I listen to One Beat and The Woods more than any other records I own. But when I went through an incredibly bitter break up last winter, I listened 'Good Things' over and over again.
My ex and I had our falling out long ago, but right now we're still in a weird want-to-be-friends-but-things-are-still-really-awkward phase. Point being, I thought I was totally over the whole thing, except every time I listen to "Good Things" it all comes rushing back. I have a real, physical response to the song. The other night I listened to it a couple of times in a row, and I felt so anxious, like my skin was crawling.
It's all in the way the song's set up. "Good Things" is easily the cleanest produced song on Call the Doctor. Corin is the only vocal track, unlike 90% of their stuff, which makes her sound really naked and alone. Back in '96 her voice was still really raw, which totally fits the song. I SCREAM along every time I play it in my car, and don't feel out of place, because she's sort of out of tune sometimes. Always good for a catharsis, even when I didn't know I needed one.
I had such better thoughts the other night, when it was freaking me out how deeply I was affected by listening to a damn songs. Even though I have such weird, visceral responses, I love this song so damn much. Do you have any songs that are just so damn painful, but you have to listen to them?

Well I have a bunch of those. It might seem obvious but in terms of breakups, "Ex-Factor" by Lauryn Hill really hurts...every time! It's just too damn good though!
