Funky Friday - Daniel Merriweather

Artist:
I hosted an end-of-season party for the softball team; I won't see most of these guys until the spring and I wanted to make sure I had a good music mix.
The majority of the players are a good number of years younger than I am and they love clubbing so I collected a bunch of current dance tracks, threw in a little 80s extended mixes, 70s disco and recent retro-tinged numbers from artists like Duffy and Amy Winehouse.
Well, they seemed to enjoy everything except this number, "Impossible" by the Australian singer Daniel Merriweather. He's probably best known over here for the cover of the Smiths' song "Stop Me" that he did with Mark Ronson. I was actually asked to change the song. I thought "WTF?" This is one of my favourite releases of the past year and I thought it had everything going for it - good beat, great voice, catchy lyrics - but no, they'd rather hear a Britney Spears remix (!).
Oh, well - it's probably a good thing that I didn't sign up for any winter sports this year. Maybe their tastes will improve over the season. Doubt it...

.....Ah the marvel & miseries of have eclectic tastes. I like it
Exactly. Kids today - what do they know?
I do not understand the appeal of "classic Rock Radio". My god, the same twelve Rolling Stones reshuffled ad infinitum......with the like number from Zep & Aerosmith & all the rest of the usual suspects. Drives me nuts!
Or even worse, the same AC/DC songs recycled over and over... nice to listen to once in a while but several times a day? No, thanks.
